Les, I have a nice clean gap between the trim ring and the rod blank so things are looking good for locking down the reel seat. I really appreciate the tips on using small amounts of epoxy and scoring the surface of the ring with sand paper. The whole purpose of ring was just for visual aesthetics. I'm sorry if I was not clear that the carbon fore grip slides over a uni-lock hood. My intention was to attach an aluminum trim piece to end of the fore grip with a slight gap so it's never touching the rod blank and the threads of uni-lock can rotate freely. Thank you for the epoxy suggestions.

I haven't mounted the reel seat / handle yet but I'd say roughly: Rod butt to spool 11" and spool to tip 69".

Once again thank you for the detailed help. That was exactly the conclusion I was coming to...and I would love some help with the guide train layout. It is in fact a spinning rod build on a Rainshadow Immortal 6' 10" Medium XF blank, 2000 series Carbon X reel, 10 lb. braid with 8 lb. fluorocarbon leader. Thanks again! -Bruce
