I would also recc. a magbass 783. it is a versatile rod for many midwest applications. I built a Rainshadow XMB783 and use it on bass and walleye, and it is my most used rod in my arsenal. If you are simply doing a trim band, before you finish the guide....place the thread or threads under your last thread wrapped on the main color and finish off the guide with at least 5-10 passes left leaving the tags (bands) loose. now you should have a finished guide with loose thread that is held under the original wrap. finish off you trim band(s) and tie off.
