Has anyone run across an NFC blank close to action and power to St Croix's C4610MXF? I am not opposed to trimming another blank since most of their XF blanks seem to be focused for drop shotting. Someone has asked me to build them a rod on this blank and there are a couple of blanks from NFC that I was going to order for myself and thought I might find an alternative from them to save on shippi

I think you want the MB 704 in the HM series. The 705 is supposed to be based off the 843. They also make the 704 in a 734 (7’3”) length. If you end up going with 7’ models please note the sale they are running. The more blanks you purchase the greater the savings - up to a point. Buying two HMs discounts both rods to 50% but adding a third it goes to 75%. This makes the third blank essenti

The SJ725 is the blank from NFC you should look at. It has a much better tip for jig fishing than the 736. If you like longer rods the 765 would fit the bill.

Can you elaborate on when the X-ray Air blank line will be available? Or at least what models are planned and the intention of them? I see the 725 has a MBR designation.

For NFC blanks, look hard at the X-ray SJ724 & SJ725. The 724 would be for the lighter weights and the 725 for anything over 3/8. These blanks are top of the line and very sensitive (as discussed this is subjective).

Chris - Given the 5/8oz weight I would go with the sj736. I base the recommendation on my experience with the two rods (736 mb or sj) and the weight you listed not necessarily from a technique point of view. I have no experience with drop shotting with those weights but do fish the sj736 to 1/2oz and know it can handle alittle more.

I have experience with many of the Dobyns rods and the NFC Xray balnks you are looking at. I used to use the dx741 for lighter drop shots and then step up to the dx742 for anything 3/16oz and above. This is now the same for the sj732 and mb733. I now use the sj732 for drop shots and it has a similar light tip of the Dobyns 742 but I don't think you would get the hooksets you seek on
