It's unfortunate that this forum software doesn't have a "like" button.
There's a lot of great knowledge here and I appreciate everyone's thoughtful replies.
I'm going to talk to my guy on the phone tomorrow and try to find out what he has in mind. I'm probably going to steer him toward a factory rod.

A guy who bought a rod I built and listed on @#$%& has asked me how much it would cost him to have me build another.
It would be a two-handed fly rod, and I'll build the grips from cork rings.
This has been strictly a hobby, and it's flattering to have someone want another one of my rods but I don't want to give my time away, either.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but this thread comes very close to a new question I was going to post.
I've been using a Grizzly drill lathe for turning cork grips, and it works fine for turning on a mandrel, and as a next step I turned a single-handed grip on the blank. It worked OK, too. When turning a single-handed grip on the blank, the butt end of the rod is at the drill, and

Hello all, new member here with my first post. I've been lurking a while, and have already learned a lot as I go down the rabbit hole of rod building.
I'm building my first two-hander, a 12' 6 weight. I'll be gluing cork rings on the blank, and sanding them on a hobby lathe. I've done a re-grip of a single hander this way and it came out pretty good.
