Thanks for the input, I put a 2nd coat using more product and what a difference.
The finish layed out flat and even and looks great. Just didn’t put enough on the first time.
Now I know for next time

Hey everyone,
it's been a long time since i've finished a rod and last night i put a coat of gen 4 lite on.
left it on the rotiserie overnight and still looks like crap. i think i was being too careful and didn't put enough on.
I mixed 3cc of each and still had some left over after 8 guides and a butt wrap. Atleast it dried.
Question is should I have had any left and if I use all of it on a 2

Hey Everyone,
i have a friend that fishes King Salmon on Lake Ontario and want to build a couple of downrigger rods for him.
if i'm not mistaken they should be all glass due to the constant bend and force on the rod.
Have any of you built for this application and can suggest a couple of blanks to choose from?
I'll probably go with the spiral wrap on these as well
Thank you

Hey all,
quick question... do the crb thread carriages from mudhole fit the alps power base?
I really don't like the one that it comes with.
Thanks

5. LZR guides
Hey everyone, have any of you used the LZR guides from mudhole? I’m building a couple of 7ft MHX SJ843 spinners and got the LZRs in 20-12-5s to tip. I’m surprised at how small the 20 is as a stripper. It looks like they might be better for a ngc layout rather than a concept layout. Will they still work or should I go with a 25 or higher frame guides altogether? Thanks for any input
Oh, the reel

Hey all, I’m going to build a mhx sj 842 spinner and was looking for thoughts on what guides to use. I want to stay as light as I can without using $35 titanium guides. What are the lightest cost effective guides for this?
Will be used with 12lb braid throwing top waters for stripers and bluefish.
Thanks for your help

Good afternoon all,
Was wondering everyone’s thoughts on using 40wt embroidery machine thread for building.
Does anyone have any first hand experience trying it and what were the results? Amazon has such great deals on multiple spools and an incredible selection of colors. Out of the game for awhile and getting back into it. Waiting on my Alps wrapper to arrive and getting my #%¥€ together.

Thanks Tom. Yes it’s thread finish I’m asking about. Should have been more clear in my question. It’s been several years since I last built and had always used flex coat. So many new brands I was just looking for some thoughts on the nicest end product
Thanks again

Hi fellow builders. I’ve been out of the game awhile and getting back into it again. Looking to build a lite tackle spinning rod for stripers and blues.
Will probably use a penn battle 2500 with 10-15lb braid. I’ll be throwing surface lures and bucktails up to 1oz.
Looking for blank recommendations for 7 to 7 1/2 feet.
Thank you
