Thanks, I thought of the Rainshadow recipe for similar blank after I posted the question. The Anglers Resource site was the one I couldn't remember!

2. second rod
I succumbed to a 4th of July sale and ordered a North Fork Composites 11.5' surf rod. My first rod is based on a Rainshadow blank, and I was able to use one of their recipes with small modifications.
This rod will be used with a spinning reel. I'm wonder where to start as far as choosing number and size of guides, and handle and reel seat components. Any directions welcome.

I’m in n the same situation as a he OP. I ordered the best Fuji titanium guides. They appear fine as is. Is sanding them necessary?
Thank you.

I am planning my first rod. I am not sure whether they will work with the Alps MVT reel seat. My guess is yes?

Does anyone care to share experience? I'm trying to decide between them. I hope to match up carbon fiber grips, as well.

Hi Arthur,
The OD is .04 mm bigger than perfect. I think I can live with that. I will consider one of the Seaguide seats, as well.
Thank you

10. Re: Guide advice
Are you still a fan of the SeaGuide RS? I can't quite see spending for Torzite at this time. I'm thinking Alps with Fuji Arowanna SIC top, or possibly Seaguide RS.

12. Re: Guide advice
I have been basing my design on Batson blueprints, but I am not tied to using Alps. Which guides would you suggest? I see Fuji belly and running guides - 4 belly and 6 running? And what would you use for the 12?

16. Guide advice
I am planning my first rod build. It is going to be a casting rod for casting swimsuits on 1/2-1 oz. jigheads, for halibut, from shore in the SF Bay. I plan on using a Rainshadow IMMP70H blank. I'm going for light weight as I'm 61.
I intend to use 12,10, 8, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 6 as my layout. I have two questions: am I even going to notice the difference between titanium and SS16 Alps MXN guide
