Am in the process of re doing a few bamboo fly rods but it seems ferrules are a problem. Who sells ferrules. Do you measure in 64 inch? How about aluminum. Used to use them 20 + years ago. These are not valuable bamboo- like the action. Thanks, Bill Gaude

This post is not for the putist. Have made many fly rods (graphite) and recently acquired a few bamboo rods which I have stripped and plan to redo with new seats, grips and eyes. Who sells ferrules? it seems there is always one split.. Is it possible to shorten the butt by 8-10 inches to get a more usable rod? Mt streams use. Most rods are 9 ft or better. am not interested in original ferrules b

I live in Tn and am 62 years old .I have fished most of the lakes and have made rods for over 30 years. I assume you tape the reels as was done when Tn grips first became popular. SUGGESTION- aluminum conduit bushed with cork gives a real FEEL AND IF YOU EVER HOOKED A 5 LB SMALLMOUITH you would be glad the reel did not start to "wooble" on the reel seat- just a thought..

I basically wind fly rods and use "regular" A thread. Color preserver added when I like but want subtle colors. Am using some Rice thread with color preserver part on the thread.. will I get basically the color "before" coating or should I use Color preserver in addition.? thanks

Recently finished a fly rod and am unhappy with results-primarily thread color. It has 1 coat of lite flex coat. What are my chances of stripping thread and guides and starting over without damaging blank? any recommended procedures?

Have started making rods again after many years. Most are fly rods. Have been using Flex Coat but ran across a site showing several different types. I think I used to use Gudebrod. Just looked at a rod I made about 30 years ago and still clear and no yellowing. Any advise? Have had problem with not drying totally(flex coat) but only mixing very small amounts.

Just picked up a Compac 3 piece fly rod 8.6 length. Guides and original wraps are in good condition . Was going to strip , rewind with new guides, etc but see no need. Someone mentioned Tru oil for rod (gunstock finish). Any comments. Hate to buy Varnish for one rod. Windings are verigated and original. Can I use Flex coat? Not much sign of original coating but plan to give whole thing a scrub w

Have a couple of old bamboo fly rods. Plan to totally strip and redo .Have several questions. Is paint remover acceptable for old varnish? If there is a slight curve, what can be done to straighten? I know how rods are made and do not to hurt original glue. Steam would seem OK.? Saw information on Tru oil as a finish and use it on gun stocks. Varnish is also mentioned. Any comments? After strip
