I built a 7 wt from a Cabela's SLI, 9 ft. It is a moderate-fast. It casts some pretty good sized flies with ease. If you have a Cabelas near, you could look at a six or eight wt. I don't think they have a premade 7 wt.

A butt wrap I still had taped to the blank had some Sulky Holoshimmer and Guderod HT Metallic gold in it.
I did the tie down wrap with Ht Metallic gold. While removing the tape, the Holoshimmer started getting loose, them the Metallic gold started coming loose. After trying to salvage it for about 20 minutes, I finally ripped the whole wrap off.

I have built several blue gill rods for people from 4 wt fly blanks. You might visit a fly shop and handle a couple 2 or 3 wt. rods to see what you think. You may be able to find a six ft. 2 wt blank

Be carefull what you polish silver plate with. The silver can be taken off with the wrong polish. Just wipe with water

I have only built three rods, but am addicted. What is the best way to cut pree assembled cork handles?

What do you think about using nylon mono as a ferrule wrap? The nylon mono
is sewing thread, .005 dia. grayish in color. Would make two wraps. It will
be vertually invisible on a black blank.

11. Gel pen
I'm new to rod building so I was practicing inlays, wraps,& applying flex coat.
I wrote some letters on the blank, [ practice, WHEW ] I let the writing dry one
hour while a small flood light was shining on the blank. When I applied the
Flex Coat I noticed what I first though was bubbles. It turned out to be
very small flecks of green from the green gel pen. The pen was a Pentel, Meta

Are casting guides about the same size as fly stripper guides?
Is a size 10 about the same size in both?
Getting ready to order tich guides for a fly rod. Single foot on the upper
guides . I have seen more options in casting guides as opposed to strippers.
