I have heard complaints about the size 8 recoils freezing up very quickly here in Wisconsin. Im thinking about running size 10s. They don't come in a lower frame option but I don't mind their height. I have seen the running guides being used instead of a tip top. I might have to do that in this case as I don't know of a tip that stands today far off the blank and has a large ring. What are the di

I have a NFC 1264 blank that I am building as a centerpin rod. I often fish in below freezing temps so I plan on using size 8 guides on the top half. I would also like to keep weight down. I have looked at the Seaguide HLG with RS rings and they seem pretty awesome. Unfortunately I wasn't planning on using that high of a frame guide on the top half of the rod and I cannot find a similar black gui

For your medium blank I would suggest the MB 702. The MB blanks have a ton of backbone.
For the medium light I would suggest either the SJ732 x-ray or possibly the DS 721 x-ray although I haven't had my hands on that blank yet. I would assume it has a much lighter tip section like their other Drop Shot models.

It may be worthwhile to check out North Fork Composites freshwater series. I have a FW 602-1(IM) built as an UL with MInima guides and it handles the lightest of baits and can handle some very large trout. They also have a 6'6" (661 or 662)and a 7' blank (701 or 702) that have the same tip action with the addition of length in the butt. NFC also has a sale going on for most of November.

I also found this thread that discussed a way to do it as well that I might try a variation of..

I am new to this forum so I may be overlooking the answer but I have been looking for a reel seat that is recessed into the grip in the front and the rear. I looked through the pictures in this forum and found one that fits what I have looking for but on my phone I cannot see who posted the picture (link listed below). If you know who I can ask or where I can find these components let me know!

Hello all. I recently discovered this forum and the wealth of knowledge that is available here. I am specifically interested in finding more information on building the foam core grips with carbon fiber sleeves and it appears this is the place to look. I have read some recent discussions on the topic and they often reference past issues of Rod Maker magazine. I am hoping that there is someone
