Sikken is another paint supplier choice. If you haven't done this before try a little test on a scrap blank or anything smooth and round first, so you end up with the right brush and understand the "flow" of the urethane, and the set up time, so you don't end up with a "wavy" finish. Heck, if you're using an auto finish and can spray it on practice with that too! Hope this

I had the same problem with a mahogany blank. If it is similar, check out chestnut, I think it is gudebrod 527.

Sorry, didn't notice you were from Chile. , There is a couple links to the citrus products we're talking about. I don't have any affiliations with these companies, just trying to show you the product. Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody. I see the sponsor list again. Thanks for the insight into the CTS Spencer. Makes me wish I would've been more aggressive in meeting up with Andy but oh well, next time.
Fred, that wrap looks good, just a little beyond my current ability, well actually beyond my available time and patience. I do see what you're getting at with the colors. I've got a different perspec

I second the stripper, Home Depot and others have these products and a plethora of online sources. I use citrus snowboard wax remover too, all that citrus stuff is good if it does the job. I once redid a surf rod only to find out the blank was cracked at the ferrule (permagloss cracked and it showed itself) so do a good inspection before you put out alot off effort. Hope this helps.

You beat me Spencer, thanks. I'll get some and do a test. Where does one find the Shikari blanks?

Bad as in awesome. Lures range anywhere from 1/16 oz spoons to 1/2 oz topwaters with an emphasis on the lighter side. I actually bought a Rainshadow (or maybe Forecast I don't remember) "hotshot" blank and found it to be not in the same category in terms of action and power than the Loomis brand "hotshot". I also bought a 841 but I think it was more of a spinning rod than w

Hello again, it's been awhile since I've visited. Some of you may remember a debate I started over the ultimate low cost speck rod. Well I've added two more to that list. The loomis P8400 and the Loomis Dropshot. The 8400 is one bad rod, and while the dropshot offers a really light tip, I found it to be too light when setting the hook. In addition each of these I don't consider inexpensive,

I guess I gotta break down and learn some more so I "unnerstan" this stuff. Having spent quite a bit of time in cajun country, I got a kick out of that. Anyway, I'm going to do some searches on CCS, and set up a board as Emory suggests, if I'm able. Thanks again everyone.

Wow! That's some really good information. I understood it too. Mr. Kirkman, I might try a lighter than normal GUSA to try to stay a little under to compensate for them being a little stiffer. My problem is really similar to the one you describe also. If I am catching reds using 1/16 spoons, I really need a light rod and don't possess the skills to "extend" a rod. I've fished with t

"How about by putting one in your hand and fishing with it " With my lacking knowledge of blank construction unfortunately that is the only way I'm going to find out. However, I don't care if they have to sandwich newspaper in there if it helps get the job done. So all the technical info is good but doesn't help me. If I had to buy a bunch (I'm guessing) to become a reseller/distrib

Indeed. Now that I'm thinking breakage, I'm wondering if my earlier mentioned 7'6" croaker special was a HotShot. That may explain the tip breaking on that jack.

I appreciate the compliment. I have done my fair share of fishing. I did mean for this to be an informative thread and I think that is what Bill is doing, providing information. The first time I fished with my HotShot was in the surf. It was the fastest action rod I'd ever used, and I wondered how it would handle a big fish. It didn't take long that day to get a hold of a full grown slimy ga

16. Re: Shop Light
T-5 flourescents are great. More light output vs. power consumption than regular bulbs. Most of the fixtures I have seen also have digital ballasts. That means no noise. They also have a wide variety of soft and bright colors.

I never was that big of a fan of AllStar. The few friends that I do fish with all have AllStars and Shimanos (I use an Abu Morrum), I call them clones. I guess I just have to be different. Plus I'm looking for something I'll be able to build for friends and potential customers in the future. Does anyone know what blank Gloomis uses for their Greenwater 9000c, I already know its a little too e
