Does anyone have any thoughts on retrofitting a cork grip with a soft attachment loop for a rod leash, similar to the one pictured in the last edition of RodMaker Magazine?

I agree with Norm - no wrap on the male ferrule. I've never seen a fly rod break at the male ferrule, especially a 4 wt. I always wrap the female ferrule, just a short wrap, as Norm suggested.

I like Lance's explanation about the 20mm stripper. Another theory I've heard is that if there's any tangle in the fly line, the oversized stripper will allow the tangle to pass (and hopefully untangle) a little easier. Another reason for using bigger running guides with a 12 wt is the size of the knot on your line to leader connection and the guide's ability to allow the knot to pass.
I would

I built two TFO BVK's (one an 8 wt & one a 9 wt) a couple of years ago. I even broke a tip on the 9 wt by slamming it in a door and they replaced the tip. Both were very nice casting rods for the money. Blanks ran about $125 if I remember right.

This is the first post for me. I've been a flyfisherman for 50 years, have built a few rods (including a stint at the Paul Young co. after college). To me, a fly rod needs to have snake guides. Check out any of the major manufacturers of top quality rods (Sage, Loomis, Tom Morgan, Scott, Winston, etc.) , what do you see on their rods?
I built a couple of rods in the early 2000's on Loomis blanks
