Another thing to think about, if you have time. Army Officers, even full bird Colonels, have a branch. (Infantry, Artillery, etc...) Each of those different branches has a branch color. Infantry = Sky Blue, Artillery = Scarlet, etc... You could, if you wanted, put that insignia on top of a field of the Officer's branch color. Just a suggestion. Good Luck.

I have looked at the P-Touch machines. Very nice quality for the printing. Any font you want from the machines that connect to a PC. The tape selection is a bit thin. IMHO the only tape that is usable is the white letter on clear tape. Wish there were more choices of letter coloring on clear tape.

First, finding a class with an experienced builder is a really good idea. Books and videos can teach a lot, but a hands-on class with a pro is invaluable. I built my own wrapping stand for approx $23 dollars. Only needed 2 boards 1"X6"X20" Anything close to that will do fine. I used poplar. Built a dryer motor from a bar-b-que rotisserie for $23 dollars. I have now built 5 rods. 4

I also built a dryer from a bar-b-q rotisserie and a 2in PVC cap and some 1in wood. 4RPM motor. Total cost about $30 bucks.

Another thing to mention, besides thread weight letters... NCP Simply, it kinda means "No Color Preserver" (none needed, that is) NCP thread keeps it's color (mostly) when epoxy is put over the thread. Thread that is not NCP will turn kinda translucent. Against a dark rod blank, a light weight, light color thread that is not NCP will almost become the color of the blank and nearly d

I agree with Mike. You can't really "tie it off". You must wrap over it. It is quite easy to see under light color A thread wraps. Not so easy to see under dark, heavier thread wraps.

I finally got tired of the drill-and-file thing. Reamers are really cheap. They are much quicker than a file. And, using reamers, it's much easier to get the whole centered.

A related question... I've finished my first spiral butt wrap. It's an "open" wrap. The blank is not totally covered by thread. I did quite well with the wrap. Lined up, nice and straight, vibrant color. I've put one coat of "regular" Flex Coat epoxy finish on it. It all looks pretty good to me. But, the epoxy is not thick enough to make a smooth surface around the wrap. The

I normally use very thin pieces of masking tape as Mr. Kirkman wrote. Lately, I've been experimenting with an UHU glue stick. The UHU is not a strong glue. It's just enough to temporarily keep the guide in place while I position the tape properly. You just want an itty-bitty dab on the guide foot before you put it down on the blank.

IMHO a hands-on class with a pro is the best start. Next is videos. Then books with pictures. There are sooooooo many little ancillary things you need to learn. The pamphlets are helpful, once you know *how* to wrap.

I've put two pictures of my contraption in the "Equipment and Tools" portion of the picture section. Search for the word "dryer"

So far, nobody has mentioned NCP thread. When I'm using white, or very light colors, I like to use NCP.

Sam. Sure thing. But, I'll want to pretty it up a bit first. Maybe the end of the week.

I finishing up one of these, right now. Barbeque rotisserie from the local home improvement store $22. Runs at about 4rpm. Cut the square rod down to three inches. Small cap head set screw to keep the square rod in place. I also used the 2in PVC pipe cap and three cap head screws as a chuck. All of this mounted onto 1in wood with base. Works great.

I fish salmon and steelhead in the lower 48, so my experience is not exactly like the Kenai. But, I am finishing up a new spinning rod for salmon/steelhead. I'm using a Rainshadow IST1265 blank. This is the second rod I have made with this particular blank. 10' 6" Medium/Heavy rating. I like the length because it helps with casting distance and helps me keep the main line off of the water

I'm especially interested in the comment.

I was a little worried that the tag ends of the red would show through.

When using the FlexCoat CP, I think I am seeing the tag ends of guide wraps showing through. They don't show before I apply the CP. They seem to pop up after applying CP. I thought it was just my error. But, if

To answer the question about the decal in the bag... Both of the Rainshadow blanks that I have received had two decal sheets in the bag. The decal has a nice script, silver "Rainshadow", a line weight rating, e.g. 10-20 and a lure weight rating e.g. 3/8oz - 3/4oz
