Thanks for the advice. I've built plenty of spinning rods on RG blanks. Sounds like now is the time to put a few RG casting rods under my belt.
Thanks,
Jon

Rodgeek SG70MM VS St. Croix 1C72MM
Has anyone handled both of these blanks? The specs are very similar. I have a customer wanting me to build a s-glass crankbait spiral wrap rod. I have not handled either blank. I'm leaning towards the St. Croix simply because that's the rod he referenced but if I can get the same performance from the RG blank, I can give him color options and still stay well

4. Lathe Chucks
I'm about to purchase a wood lathe. What are some good choices for lathe chucks? I was looking at a collet style for the head stock and a live center in the tail stock. Does anyone us a Jacobs style in the tail stock to ensure the mandrel doesn't walk backwards off the tail stock? I could just use mandrels without the ends center bored then correct? Below are links to the parts I'm looking at.

I'm going to talk to a lawyer friend about my options. I planned on having seperate accounts from business and personal. I didn't realize there is the possibility of proctection that way too. The more I dig, the more I realize my ignorance. Hope to report back with some good info soon.

I agree. The chances of a lawsuit are very close to zero. Maybe that's the question I should have asked... is it necessary to have coverage of accidental injury cause by a rod build? Should I just pursue coverage of an injury at my place of business?

I had read that when searching past posts. Some of the blanks I have built on have not come with a makers decal. Usually they are ice rod blanks. I'm not sure how to get around that besides not building on those blanks. Which would be hard to do because they are some of my favorite.

I would think a good Dipsy-Diver blank would work.
Batson RDR100H maybe?

Thank you for the response. I did check with the company I currently have my home owners with. They have not returned a quote yet. However, they did give me the green light to have a business in my home. As I understand it, many do not. I will be sure to report back soon with an update on price differences.

I am shopping insurance for my rod building business. I'm having trouble finding affordable coverage. Rarely will someone visit my home/shop but I understand I need to cover myself in those rare circumstances. Plus the chance of a lawsuit should someone be hurt from a rod I build. Would anyone care to share what kind of coverage they are using? When I explain to the agents what I'm looking for,

Lynn hit the nail on the head with his explanation....Besides "The ribbon was then removed leaving the desired imprint on the blank." Rarely it's what I desire, but it suits a simple name or inscription. Thank you Lynn for your generosity. I should be set for quite some time. I can only hope my pen doesn't bite the dust any time soon.

I'm sure it is. The "pen" plugs in and heats like a wood burning tool. Its called "The gold writer 101" by veach. They make a lot of embossing tools. Unfortunately, their newer foil seems to need more heat. Being left handed, I prefer it over the quill pen. Its not often, but I say a few choice words when I drag my hand through my already "sketchy" writing.

I was given a foil pen from my friend that introduced me to rod building. I hadn't tried it until recently and realized how nice it is compared to my old method of an inkwell pen and india ink. My only problem is I am having trouble finding the correct heat foil. I have purchased some from multiple locations but none has transferred well. My question is; does anyone have a good source for heat fo
