Hi all,
I'm building my first 7/8wt spey rods. 500 to 650 grain heads for westcoast steelhead.
Is threadsize A sufficient for the guide wraps?
do I need to underwrap or overwrap?
When would I need to stepup to size D thread?
What about a 12wt single hand fly rod for tarpon?
The larger size rods are new to me and I'm looking for advice on what I need to do differently for heavier

Thanks everyone.
I'm in Calgary so it's a challenge to size up before I buy online.
I've looked at factory Sage ones and the guides have looked small, but asthetics are all I have to go on.
And Rec guides aren't cheap
The guides I can get here aren't great but I'll use them as a reference to see which guide size i prefer
Thanks

I had a new eternity2 5wt fly rod snap when joining the sections together before I even built it.
it snapped in the middle 4.5' down a 9' blank, but I was shocked as it broke with miniscule force just inserting sections together.
It was a defective blank as I had also shipped an 8wt with it, and that showed no signs of damage in transit.
Batson were very good at getting me a replacement,

hi,
I'm building a Sage one 13'6" 7wt spey rod
the guide recommendations are as follows.(see below)
The top 6 guides seem small to me (size 3)
I was going to upsize them to size 4, but a friend informed me that sage deliberately undersize the guides to make the line track truer to the blank.
Has anyone built a sage spey using their guide size recommendations?
What were your
