Harbor freight has a small wood lathe that, with thier coupon it brings it to under $100. It's not fancy, but with a mandrel form a sponsor here, is perfectly suitable.

I orderd the 24" straight grips from mudhole. They have a decent color selection, they are 1-1/4 round and 24" can be cut to length desired. The eva is pretty good quality.

I have been using ProWrap size 'B' for a while now, and really like it. It is easy to work with and the color selection is good. It also plays nice with other threads like size 'A' metallics.

The alconites are great with braded line. I use powerpro 15 and 20lb on most of my inshore gear and the guides do great. Size 6 is the smallest I would go for passing knots through, but as long as they're tied down tight they fly through with no problem. As stated above, the fg knot is a great one. Try the KB guides they are (in my opinion) better built than byag.
