Yep I get it. Double foot all the way I promise really. I will strike the very words (single foot guide) from my vocabulary.

Okay sounds like I need ti switch to an 8ft rod and go with double foot guides no problem. I was thinking about using a simple spiral. For the 180 degree guide would I want to stick with a double foot there as well ? Thanks for all the responses. JM

I'm in wisconsin and up to this time I have not built a heavy rod. Thats why I asked if I could use single guides. If single foot guides would work I see no advantage to double foot. Sounds like single foot won't work so I will go with double foot no problem. I called Seeker and told them what I was building and how and what I was using it for. They suggested the GTS70H. The line weight on

I have a couple of Florida trips coming up and need to build a travel rod. I really don't know much about inshore fishing so please feel free to make other sugestions. The blanks need to be 3pc. Looking at 2 blanks both are 10-17lb / 1/4 - 3/4oz / seven feet. The American Tackle AT843 is a fast action medium power The Batson SWT70M-3 is a m/f action and medium power. Thoughts ? Thank

I have a request to build a 2pc 7-7.6ft rod for snappers. This will go to N.Z. hence the 2pc or 3pc Spinning rod Currently the customer is using a couple of dropshot rods and likes the action. Using 15lb braid and bottum fishing with plastics. I really don't have any experience building this type of rod. I am looking for blank recomendations. I looked for 7-7.6ft 15lb 2 and 3pc blanks

I don't see how I could do a Forhan locking wrap on a Pac-Bay Minima guide. Would the guide be more secure if I put a few thread wraps past the ring or should I just wrap the foot and be done with it. This will be a 5wt rod. Thanks Jeff Miller

Okay I am going to go with the Minima's. For referance I looked at the Batson spacing chart. I will be using 2p. 8.6ft blanks and they go from a 12 stripper right down to a 4 running guide. Is it typical on a flyrod to jump down in guide size that quick. I would have guessed a 12 -8 (or so)-then the final running guides and in this case size 4 as that is the smallest available in the Minim

Sorry forgot to add this to the last post. How about tips for a fly rod. These will be 5W rods. I see that Pac Bay offers 3 sizes of tips ( Loops). They also offer standard and light wire. They also offer the Ceramic fly tips. Should I use a larger ring size on the tip than I am using on the guides ? I will probably use #4 rings for the guides. Thanks Again Jeff

Okay I have never used or built a flyrod. My son is 11 and has decided he wants to try fly fishing and he wants to build his own rod. I would like some advice on a blank. My son tends to get frustrated very quickly if he can't master something in 3 seconds. Since I know nothing about flyrods forgive me for asking what may be stupid questions. Are some blanks easier to cast at the cost of ac

Currently using Mud-Hole house blank SPSWB7M. I like the blank overall but was looking to maybe upgrading the blank a little. The Mudhole blank action is almost perfect for my use, but hey half the fun is in always trying for perfect. A slightly softer tip would be an improvement and something other than gloss black would be nice as well. I was looking in the Pac Bay catalog and found the PBX

I really tried to find this information on several sights but could not find the height of the Fuji BYAG guides. I would like to get the height of a BYAG16-20-and 25. If anyone could spare a few minutes I would be grateful. Anglers Resource sent me to the Fuji Australia sight and told me to open a PDF. For some reason I could not open the guide PDF file. Thanks in advance. Jeff Miller

Looking at rollers for a 30lb wire rod. I have used all Aftco to this point. I like the color choices and style of the Pac Bay Classics. Any opinions on quality? These will be freshwater rods. Thanks in advance Jeff

I build a few downrigger rods and would highly recommend the Batson SPG in the line rating he wants. Rod length is really up to individual tatse, I really don't like anything over 7ft but the long rods do have their fans. I run 2 sets of downrigger rods. A clean spoon rod SPG783 with 12lb test and a dodger/ fly rod SPG785 with 17lb test. I would also suggest you build him a spiral and of

Thanks. This is a blank that was sent to me by mistake and just trying to figure out what I could use it for rather than send it back. The supplier is more than willing to take it back. Just thought I might try something differant and this Musky trip just came up. I use many RCLB's but in a completely differant aplication. Thanks for the responses.

I have never built a Musky rod and in fact have never fished for them. I have a chance to go Musky fishing and have a Batson RCLB70ML and was wondering if any Musky Rod builders would like to offer an opinion on this blank as a musky rod. It does seem a little heavy but not all that far out of line. If it would make a decent musky rod what do you all think of split grips? And what about the Fu

Ted I have not tried Alconite guides yet. So far I have used roller guides and wanted to try something differant. Sorry for the tip confusion. I want to build a rod with the spiral wrap and use a roller tip. The only current roller tip I could find that was made for a spiral wrap starts at size 10. If I used a standard roller the line would ride against the pin not the roller. I had built

Anyone have trouble with guide wear using Alconite guides and stranded wire. I will be using 30lb. wire and probably a Silicon Nitride tip. Also looking for any suggestions for same rod using the simple spiral and a roller tip. The blank will have a 7 tip and the only spiral tips I could find start 10. I don't mind wrapping thread to make up for a tip that is one maybe 2 sizes to large but 3 size

My son son wanted a purple handle for his purple rod. The handle is a piece of of the American Tackle green woven handle kit. We sanded down with 600 wet and dry and then painted it with some spray model paint (testors) I think. I then used the same brand clearcoat over the paint. We then wrapped a Fuji plate seat on and the next day the thread had sunk into the finish. So we sanded again an

Vendors ? Anyone, even if you wholesale only I have a business license would like to purchase some of the old style American Tackle Roller Tops. I'm looking for sizes 7 to 10. Unfortunetly I don't even have a part number for them. Best way to describe them is that both rollers are almost the same size. The top roller is close to the size of the current style's bottum roller.

Thanks for the replies I will just try a SWS and hope it works. Joel, I started with 8.6ft Diawa Heartland rods for dipsey's. After building a couple of 7ft rods for wire line and 2 - 7ft and 2 - 6.6ft rods for downriggers I can honestly say I will never go back to long rods. At this point I wish I could find a replacement for my 8.6 leadcore rods, hopefully in the 8ft range. But that will

Looking for blank sugestions for a 7ft blank for braided line dipsey rod (30lb) I made one with the Batson SWB series and find it a little on the stiff side. Thinking I might try a Batson SWS or RCL.anyone build a dipsey rod with these blanks? I did build a few with the Mudhole glass blanks and really like the action on those. I don't recall the model but they came in Black or a white th

I have some red Lamiglas Texhelium tubing and would like to use a Graphite / Alum reel seat. Pac Bay has 2 reds one is deep red, would like to know how close the Pac Bay red is to the red tubing. Or any other graphite / red reel seats that would closely match the tubing. I have some all Alum. seats that are red but they are not a good match in color. I believe they are Batson. Thanks Je
