Jerry and Phil thank you for the replies. I thought about the rubberized cork ring but i do not have any currently on hand so i think i will try the dremel. I'm fairly new to rod building and wasn't sure that i could sand down the blank part safely with out damaging it. Again thank you both for your ideas a quick responses.
Thanks
Travis

My first thought is to cut the plug flush which will expose the cork and and blank. So i need to putt a recess in for the penny so i was thinking of using dremmel but since the cork and the end of rod blank are flush i will have to grind the end of blank as well as the cork. Would that be doable with out hurt the blank?

Long story short I built two rods for some guys at work. One of them i did a penny inlay in the cork butt and the other one i put a rubber plug in. Of course the guy i just used the rubber plug saw the other rod and asked if i could add a penny inlay to his. So i agreed but now i have to figure out how to accomplish this since when built his I left the blank flush with the butt cap. Am wondering
