Im not trying to rattle cages here. Just trying to get people thinking. This 3 piece thing irritates the he-- out of me. Its kinda like this example of tradition that makes zero sense but will never change. Why do almost all fishermen retrieve a spinning reel set up left handed yet put a baitcasting reel in their hand and every cast they switch to their right hand to cast and slide the rod to the

And how about the rod builder? Wouldnt we rather wrap 25% of a blank instead of 50% or 33% when a customer steps on ir slams their tip in a car door? There are so many positives to go out with then 3 piece float rods and in with the the 4 piece. Only stubborn traditionalism prevents this. Yes two piece makes sense. 3 piece is just plain nonsense.

The issue I have with this concept for the centerpin reel is how do I measure the reel? Simply use the true diameter of my reel in the equation?

Hello Gene, back to my guide spacing wooes. my reel seat center is aprox 14 in from butt. if I place my butt guide 106 in that's 42 inches btween the reel and first guide. doesn't that seem like an awful long gap?

Four years ago I fell into the dark side and absolutely love it. ONE thing in this whole float rod world that has had me baffled from day one is why on earth would any rod/blank manufacturer make these 13 foot plus long rods in a 3

Hello Fellow rod builders. I will be building my second pin rod this winter. The blank is a CTS Affinity 13' 6" 3 piece 4-8# . My handle will be 20 inches with reel approx. 2 inches forward of center of handle. I believe I will need 14 guides plus tip top. I would love some recommendations for guide spacing. I will start with a 20 and end with 7s or 8s. Thanks

Hello fellow rod builders. I have been a fly rod builder since late 90's about to tackle my first float rod build. I fish many small rivers so I chose a CTS affinity 11'6" 2 piece 4-8 lb blank. Formerly I have been fishing a clarus 11' 4 and I like the handle length 20" 6 inches of cork in front of the pin. I plan on using the titanium nanolite guides 16 being largest 8mm the smallest.
