I like the viscosity of FC lite. I like the wonderful clear finish of Threadmaster. Threadmaster lite, when available, should be the best!

I've used them on several spinning rods with good success. None have ever pulled out.

I use the propane torch often. Just don't get it too close and keep it moving quickly. If you get the epoxy too warm you can put more bubbles in than you take out.

Kate at Siskiyou Aviary fixed me up with a good selection of feathers for inlays. My best one so far was a single "red spike" under a single small jungle cock. Simple and easy but looks really nice.

I had the same thing happen this weekend. The pompano rod I built was a tad too long in the butt and would catch my shirt when I cast. I came home and took the butt cap off and cut about 1.5" off with a hacksaw. I then installed a butt plug. It still looks good and works great now.

I like "C" for cobia, blackfin and mackeral sticks. It seems the best tradeoff for looks versus strength.

11. Re: Brushes
I've tried several from expensive to the cheap. I've settled on the 1/2 inch Royal soft-grip SG700 from Michaels. They cost about $3.00 each and work really well for me. Clean up takes about 2 minutes, first with Acetone that I keep in a pickle jar, then with soap and water. I've had some of these brushes for over a year. That turns out to be fairly cheap in the long run.

My compliments on a very nice show. My son and I had a terrific time. Hope to be back next year.

How about zip ties to secure the reel. Like the ones used in electronics and for handcuffs. For the grip you could get a leatherette type wrap like the ones used for replacement grips on golf clubs and baseball bats.

Cliff, Billy is dead on about the Foul Proof guides here in Florida, and especially here on the Gulf Coast. The ones you mentioned that rusted, were they stainless? What if you washed them off after use, will they still rust? I picked up a set to put on a GUSA 8' 6" MegaMag for cobia. Sounds like I should reconsider.

Thank you for your response. Then I guess the rod I've been waiting on to dry for the last 72 hours is not still tacky due strictly to the drop in temperature in my shop, but more likely due to either improper mixing, stirring or both. Is that about right? Do you think another thin coat applied in a warmer area with much more attention paid to the other two factors help fix the problem, or should

With regard to Flex Coat, or any thread epoxy: If all things are equal from batch to batch (mixing, stirring, etc.) how much difference in drying time would a reduction in temperature make? Like going from the 70 degree range or higher to 45 degrees or lower. Do all thread epoxies react the same way concerning temperature? Finally, does the change in temperature, higher or lower, have any effect

Hi Todd. This past spring I built a surf rod using a 2 piece 10 foot Lami for pompano fishing in the Gulf. I used the LC guides and have been very pleased. I was not able to place the first guide where Fuji recommended because of it being 2 pieces, so I'm sure I'm not getting quite the performance I should, but it really works well for me. I use a Penn 706 with PowerPro and it casts a loooong way

22. Charlotte Show
Is anyone interested in sharing a room in Charlotte?? I have a room reserved at the Westin (the host hotel for the show) for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The cost would be about $150.00 for all three nights. Also, if anyone is interested in carpooling, I will be driving up from Florida on Friday. I will be glad to share a ride with anyone from anywhere along the way. Please email me at cu

Thanks to everyone for their insightful opinions. Cliff, I guess the chicken bowls from the Maui Teriyaki are still safe.

Should we be concerned about the possible risk of avian flu when handling exotic bird feathers for inlays?
