Thanks for all the replies here, I just bought the dream reamer and I plan on hooking that up to my lathe and reaming that way. In the future though I'll definitely be boring out the stabalized wood and gluing a suitable product inside that can easily be reamed out before gluing all the pieces together on the mandrel!

So I've made my grips for my centerpin with a mixture of burl cork rings, rubberized cork ring and stabalized wood. Now I've put these together on a quarter inch mandrel and need to Reem them out. Anyone have any suggestions on how to bore out these grips? Will a regular cork reamer work or do I need to do something different because of the stabalized wood? Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

I called grizzly, looked at my manual and got it all straightened out. I have a 3/4 inch spindle with 16 TPI. Makes it easier to order when I know what I'm looking for...thanks for all your help

Ok, I was wrong...I have a 12 inch lathe. Central machinery 95607. It's the one listed in the first link you posted. So I do have the MT1 taper for sure because that 2 inch 3 jaw chuck fits perfectly into both the tail and the head. As for the threading I'm going to have to look at the manual online for that. I bought this thing used so it didn't come with one. Makes perfect sense why the Ja

Roger, this is mostly for you as you gave me a lot of lathe instructions....but, I'm a newbie and have already failed at my first order on chucks. When the ordered the lathe is bought this chuck for the head...2 In. MT1 Shank Mini Lathe Drill Chuck... It's a 3 jaw chuck that I planned on using in the head stock and using a live center for the tail stock. I don't know why but I thought I'd be able

Thank you Herb....I was thinking sanding would get interesting once I begin. I'll probably shoot u an email before I start the grip. I've got a plan in my head but so far nothing is coming together. I'm new to a lathe and can't quite seem to order the right size chucks for what I need. Nothing's coming easy with that thing.

Ok, thanks everyone. As long as it's ok to use epoxy I'll probably go that route. I was afraid it would be too strong and never come off the mandrel!

This will be my first build and I have a lot invested with this block of stabalized wood and don't want to go wrong here. What's a good glue to bring these 2 together on the mandrel? I have wood glue and 30 ton epoxy. I was planning on using the epoxy, is there a better adhesive for cork and wood than wood glue and should I ever use epoxy to hold cork together? Now that I think about it I feel li

Thanks for all the responses here. Learning quite a bit....sounds like I'll need a few different chucks at my disposal!

Alright. I had a topic about a power wrapper and its capabilities so I decided to just buy a lathe from harbor freight....18 inches. Will an 18 inch mandrel fit into an 18 inch lathe? I already ordered the three jaw chuck, but I can't find a 1/4 in mandrel that's less than 18 inches....anyone know if I can just order an 18 inche mandrelfrom mud hole and be good to go? Or is it the exact size....t

Thanks, besides not handling stabilized wood will I be able to shape cork rings with the chuck that comes with or does it need the aluminum chuck for that? Brand new to rod building here. Don't wanna break this thing if it can't handle it. I basically plan on building the cork handle right on the blank and shaping it right on the power wrapper...is that ok or should I be going a different route?

I have the American tackle power wrapper from mud hole. I plan on using this thing to turn cork with but haven't used it yet. I'm wondering will this thing with the stock chuck be able to handle turning burl cork rings and some stabilized burl wood or do I need to upgrade the chuck to the aluminum one?
