Thanks Darren
What type of joint is on your Matrix AMSH1141-2 blank, spiggot or overslide? I need to make it a 4 piece travel rod.
Regards, George

Thanks to you all for the great advice
For the guides I plan to use Alconites. BYAGs to the intersection point then BLAGs from there to the tip. Is that OK for #10 light braid?

Thanks Marty, but don't I need a slower blank to toss 1/8 oz jigs?

I want to build a spinning rod for throwing small jigs, 1/8oz, as far as possible.
I think a long rod and GsP line is the way to go, perhaps as long as 9 foot, matched with a 2500 sized reel with a good drag.
Can anyone recommend a suitable blank?
Should I use a fly rod blank? A 4 piece would be an advantage for ease of travel.
What about guides, fuji concept?
This rod would b

5. Slick Butts
How much do you put underneath these by way of arbors and what do you use? Masking tape? Full length?
It's for a 30lb class rod.

I miss receiving Rod Maker since Tom had to give up mailing it internationally.
Is there any way for those of us overseas obtaining the articles?

I am building a heavy saltwater spinning travel rod on a 7' - 3 piece blank which is rated for 30lb line.
I will be using Low Rider guides and braid line and I hope to use this rod on GTs and similar bruisers.
My questions are -
Will wrapping the female end of the ferrules (more than the usual 2 x diameter) add any strength to the joins? If so - for how far?
Should I put a hard plug

I have tried to email Randy at Seeker Rods via their web site but get bounced back. Does anyone have his direct email?

I am building a heavy saltwater spinning rod, 7 foot & 12-30 lbs for braid line.
I have ended up with the butt ring 23 inches from the reel face. Is this too far?
It looks too far to me but I am unfamiliar with this type of rod.

I think I may have replace the #16 with #20 to get the extra height which will be a pity as I don't need the diam or weight of a bigger ring.
I do periodically order stuff direct from Japan but there are fixed custom fees etc which means that it is only worthwhile if its a big order.
I will let you know if I do find a source for those CLCSG "m" guides.
Have you ever hear

I am building a travel spinning rod for use only with braid. I have a Cascade 7' long 3 piece blank rated at 12 to 30 lbs which will be matched with a Shimano 5000 Twin Power reel spooled with 20lb PowerPro.
I want to try the new Low Rider Guides but I only have access to a limited range (I live in Scotland) and so I plan to use the #16 as my butt/choke guide - but this is only 25mm high.

How many of these arbors would you use?

What is the best way to make bushings to secure a slick butt to the blank without adding too much weight?
The blank diameter is 0.5" and its a 15 to 25 lb class blank which I'm making into a light weight trolling rod with Aftco lightweight roller guides.
