There's a video on YouTube of how to prep the corncob for turning. They soak them in a liquid that hardens them. They look amazing when done. Almost like fish scales. I think the guy is making pens out of the ones in video. I think you could use acrylic like the guys that make the wood/acrylic blanks instead of whatever liquid the guy uses. However, cool thing about that liquid is the guy uses it

Use a dremel. Gently grind away the dimple until you go through, taking care not to get it too hot or gouging the blank. Do it a little bit at a time, cleaning it and checking frequently to make sure you can see when you start to go through the top. Worse case scenario you hit the blank and have to trim it there. On the other hand if it takes so much grinding that you hit the blank and gouge it b

That was my logic Nick. Thanks for confirming. The rod could actually flex less when just hanging weight from it, but the added weight and momentum generated when wobbled will actually cause the blank to be more "noodly" and appear to have a slower action than the same blank wrapped with single foot guides. Thanks for the info.

I swear I have seen a video on YouTube where two rods were wrapped the same, one with single foot guides the other with double foot guides. I swear I remember them doing a side by side static weight test and the single foot guide rod bent further down than the double foot guides? If I remember correctly and that is the case, wouldn't the double foot guide rod be stiffer since it didn't bend as fa

I have no experience with any of those exact blanks but have held some of the Pac Bay blanks and I prefer the MHX blanks over them. They just feel like nicer rods to me. I have built on 5 MHX blanks and every single one has been straight as an arrow and the finish on them has been really good so far. I do a different style of fishing so like I say I cannot attest to the action or feel of any of t

12. Re: First build
I use a heat gun and have no issues. Don't focus the heat on any one area, use on low held 6-8 inches from blank and always keep moving. I would suggest as another has to get a type of magnifier, either head band style or table top with an arm mounted magnifier. If I use one I prefer the latter. Size A thread is all I use unless I am building something beefy. I think A thread wraps better, looks
