Best thing to try is flexing the entire rod, as if you were fighting a fish. If you put some good weight on it and it does not crack/break/make noise then you might be fine, really online time may tell.

I reached out to Scott but looks like he was already out for the weekend, I'm looking for FishHawk's variegated thread number 09V also known as "ocean". Was wondering if anyone might have some laying around or know of a sponsor who might have it, reached out to a handful and had no luck. I only need it for a small fly rod. Any help would be appreciated!

Starting to get my new 5 wt setup in place but am unsure as to what length I should go with. I can pick up a St Croix 8ft 5 wt in their SC IV which is used on their older Legend Elite for a good deal but I feel as tho it may be too short. I plan on fishing ponds/lakes/large rivers in FL so I was thinking more towards 9 ft. What do you guys think?

I just finished a 3wt blue fiberglass rod; went with FishHawk silk color code: 212. Completely transparent after I epoxied them. If you do go for transparent guide wraps, I'd recommend wrapping your guides with gloves to prevent getting any oils on the threads that could effect the guide wraps from becoming transparent.

I'd say it depends on the size of the swim baits that will be thrown, some people are throwing 10+ oz swim baits so that's going to limit you to a pretty heavy rod. You can use a swim bait blank for other actions, it's just might be too stiff or overkill.

Take a look at Rainshadow's RX7 Swim Bait blanks, although they are 7' 10" they're designed for those extremely heavy swim baits.

I built a 9ft 8wt with single wire guides, 8 running wire guides and 2 stripper guides. Not including ferrule wraps and tip top that is at least 10 wraps. If I went with snakes that'd be 20 wraps just for the guides alone. I'm casting well withing the length of my fly line so I'm not worried about knots passing through the single wire guides, although I believe that snakes pass knots smoother.

Take a look at Winn Fly Grips, we sell (in my opinion) an awesome color/pattern that is similar to cork. This Winn grip will outlast cork and virtually no up-keep.

Your best bet is shipping via Ground, all our manufacturers ship either FedEx Ground or UPS Ground and I have yet to see a broken blank in 2-3 months. Also, whatever you decide to use as packaging, get some tape with "fragile" on it or write it all over the package. Also, I would suggest putting the rods in the package opposite of each other and make sure the tip of the shorter rod is p

These are Alps(Batson) guides. I work for a rod component seller and these were recommended by a co-worker as well as Batson

Hi,
I'm building my first fly rod and I'm going to be fishing Florida largemouth bass, and some inshore fishing. I'm going to be using the Revelation 908-4 blank. I've been looking around and see so man varieties of single foot guide setups, and this is what I'm currently thinking about using:
4 - XHSFG3
2 - XHSFG4
1 - XHSFG5
1 - XHSFG6
Stripper Guides
1 - XMXNLG12
1 - XMXNLG16
