I appreciate the feedback.
Tom...I checked out the Anglers Workshop one part finish. Thank you.
Lynn and Dennis...does the C-P-XTRA have a strong smell? I believe that stronger the smell the higher the solvent ratio. Maybe?
Thank you Michael. I read on here about the Varathane Triple Thick product. I just shot them an email regarding the UV protection, if any.

Thank you men.
I like permagloss Mark...just liked the no smell of Lumiseal and it would also go right over the acrylic paint I use to write on blanks where PG eats it.
Thank you Tom...I will check it out.

Men...I have spoken to Mudhole recently regarding Lumiseal. They were very informative about the discontinuing of the product following the purchase of Roddancer. Other than Permagloss, is there another one-part finish that is similar to Lumiseal? I saw where Bullard makes a C P Xtra. I also read that some guy was using Varethane Triple Thick. I just really liked how the Lumiseal was not quite

Brian....yes that counts. I could so do that. Easily. Maybe that’s a new thread...most consecutive bad words released following a rod mishap.

I use the orthodontist bands too. I bought about a bazillion off of a common website for next to nothing.

Repair in progress....unfortunately I would need to go from a 4.5 tube to a 5. Tip top to running guide would be 3 1/8. We’ll see. I have a nice broken Fenwick blank that I could do as Roger suggests.

Roger...unfortunately it was a high end MLXF blank. Luckily...I was building it for myself so no one but me will suffer. It was a soft tip Ned rod. I so appreciate you detailed insight. I’m a fisherman who builds a few rods so I love receiving this type of information.
Ben...I will indeed try a new tip top. I cleaned up the break just a smidgen.
Norm...you are definitely winning so far. I

Norm...now that’s a good story. I have broken a few in canoe blunders...but I must say you may be the only person ever to have a turtle bite their rod in two. My grandfather would have cooked that turtle....I refused to eat them when I was a little guy. Haha

And many thanks for mid-rod repair instructions! I will certainly use this technique.

Roger...it was a typo. It was a tip break. About an inch and a half from tip top.

So...this just happened...
I was building a SK2 spinning seat using an up-locking HPS hood. The bottom winding check on the threaded barrel slipped back into tube. I picked the rod up off the bench and bumped the butt end with my palm so the winding check would slide back up the blank...the tip evidently vibrated and slapped the bench leg just right. Clean break about 1.5” from the tip...as

Ethan...that blank will do great. We have those same small trout streams where I grew up as a kid. We actually used fly rods spooled with a little mono to fish the small creeks. We would swing/flip/shoot in-line spinners where we wanted and just drag them across the pockets. So much fun back in the day. Side note....my favorite trout rod now is the 6'2 Immortal (IMMWS62L) with a sk2 skeleton s

Mike...I'm digging up old bones here but this interests me. I am looking for a Lumiseal replacement.

Aleks,
Thank you for posting. The NEO and SJ703 are both interesting.
Side question...what is the current lead time on an X-Ray blank order with all that is going on?

Paul....keep us in the loop on this build.
I love the 6’8-6’10 ML slot for my smallmouth rods.
If they are a little soft for my liking, I have a trout/walleye rod...a little stiff and I have a great tube/fluke rod.

Awesome to hear. I just ordered my first blank directly from NFC a couple of weeks ago.
I hope to be getting a shipping notification at point during all this mess. This will be my first X-Ray blank...pretty excited.

Paul...I use almost this exact set-up for my smallmouth adventures.
15lb J-Braid on the 2000LT with 6-8lb leader. I went up to the 2500LT for my 7'2-7'3 rods.
I built my rod on the Bushido DS69/4-10 and love it. I used fuji KH16/8 then 5M and 4.5 or 5 runners. Alconite.
The blank is fantastic. Straight. Sensitive. Soft tip but not floppy. Tough. Nice wall/backbone.

Shipping tape base with self-fusing silicone to cushion. There are a few brands out there like Rescue and X-Treme that have different colors to match.
