I use balsa wood grips on fly rods and ultralight rods. I have also used balsa wood on ice rods. I have yet to see and drastic issues that you wouldn't see on other types of grips. Balsa wood makes a great grip material IMO.

I'm an avid crappie and bluegill fisherman. I have built quite a few of the MHX s781 series rod blanks. These rods are rated at 2-6 # and I will say they can definitely handle more. That being said, I have never had any issues with the MHX rods I have built. I have built close to 50 of the MHX rods and no issues yet. I have even gone up to the next level which is the 4-8# for river wading. Great

The RodMaker CD's are awesome. I can't wait until the volumes 13, 14, and 15 are available on disk too. I was late in buying the subscription so I will eventually want all of the volumes on CD. Great stuff indeed!
