Clyde, with Marbling pigments you can make the epoxy any color you wish. Adding a coat of colored epoxy over what you have just might give you what you are looking for. It worked for me in a similar situation.

I made that same repair recently. I am sure there are several ways to skin this cat, this is what worked for me: I drilled a small hole through the cork to the void (3/64). Very carefully...... Mixed up some epoxy finish (D2) and warmed it until it was water-thin. It took about 30 seconds with a hair dryer. Quickly filled a syringe & injected the void full of the epoxy. I stuffed a sma

I use an electronically controlled Industrial heat gun (just happened to have one...). It has variable heat & blower settings. Blower adjusts down to a whisper and the heat dials down enough to not burn your hands. It busts bubbles beautifully, quickly and consistently. Gentle heat.

Where will the customer be fishing? For what kind of Salmon? There is a HUGE difference between a rod built for silver or pink salmon as opposed to Chinook. If he is intending on fishing for Steelhead, pinks & Silvers, he might be ok with one rod, but not usually so if he intends to include Chinook. Chinook are in a class all their own. I build a fair amount of Salmon/Steelhead fly rods, it is my personal favorite type of fishing. The rods I build range from 7wt to 10wt and 9' to 10' 6". I would never build a 9' Salmon rod with only 9 guides, the odds of building a good performer is not in your favor. Why take the short cut? Making long, smooth sections of finish takes practice. I used a junk blank to practice over several times. Wrapped it with thread, epoxy finished 2 coats (sanding when necessary), peeled, repeat. Did this quite a few times before I got a finish I was pleased with. Just a thought.
