Ah, Thanks, Roger. I am just starting out with rod building and there are many things I've never even thought of and this is one. I shall try that. I have a few non color fast spools.

I did not use color preserver. I failed to check to see if the thread was color fast. Just did and it isn't. I thought I had nothing but color fast thread. I guess that's what I get for thinking! I guess I'll live with it and separate my thread by color fast and non color fast. . . Actually the purple's not a bad color. Thanks all.

I just finished building a rod using the bubble gum (pink) color pro wrap nylon and after i applied the thread finish the color of the thread is purple. Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, etc as to why and how I can get a truer color? Or can tell me what I did wrong.

Bill, I couldn't stand it! I'm okay with 100+ degrees, i just can't stand cold temps. .. Cold being relative, it is 45º here now with 19 mph winds from the north and I am freezing! And almost as bad, no sun! lol.
I checked my rods and after 36 hours the epoxy is definitely curing. Almost no tackiness to it. I really did dodge a bullet on this. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Roger, Thanks for the info, I did take both rods inside the house, into a spare bedroom about 24 hours ago and they are still tacky but not nearly as bad so, I may have dodged a bullet.
Randolph, thanks for that info. .. It brought back memories of when i first entered xray technology school on how to fill a syringe. . back in the mid 60's . .. Sorry I didn't tell anyone my background ab

I put it on in the high 30's with an electric space heater going in the garage, but turned it off when i went to bed, with the dryer still going (18 rpm). Turned the dryer off the next morning and turned the space heater back on. ... I never saw the mixture get cloudy, it was always clear when i came back to it. Could the pro kote be outdated? I bought it 2+ years ago. I really appreciate

Bill, no freezes yet this year, the coldest it has been as been 34º. I'm thinking with my inexperience i've messed it up somehow. . . . . . A bit of trivia that hopefully will help you. .. to make the degree sign ALT167.

Thanks, bill and tom for your replies. I didn't mix at least 3 cc's of each and our high temps this time of the year average in the low 70's so i don't think it's the temp, but i am going to bring them in the house. When i mixed it i did notice the mixture didn't turn cloudy like it did when i took the rod building course., but most of the time i didn't really watch it, i just came back af

15. Pro Kote Problem
I am using Pro Kote to coat my threads and the last two rods I built have resulted in the epoxy remaining sticky to the touch. I applied it during a cold snap in an unheated garage. As a novice I don't know why. Any suggestions, thoughts, etc? The rods were built early January, the low temps were mid 30's. I use an automatic mixer and use syringes to measure out the amounts.

16. Re: Why?
My wife bought me a rod building class for Christmas two years ago. I went to it and almost walked out the first afternoon due to extreme frustration. .... Couldn't get the guides to stay wrapped before I could get them epoxied! After a lot of help with the instructors I finished it. Immediately bought the equipment but when it came time to actually build a rod i hesitated because my memor
