For memory I used and extra 2 guides on the 13'6 surf rods and have built a couple with the surfcaster guides, for the guide spacing I did ask American tackle and they were working on this but did give a good starting point for your first three guides, from there it was quite easy to static test and place guides. Maybe they have a revised guide placement now as it was sometime ago I built them.

Hi James, Beautiful blanks the Snyders, they are still available and can be bought here in Australia, with still a reasonable range available and possibly what you are seeking, I am hesitant to put the supplier down here as they are not on the sponsors list, but I'm sure I can point you in the right direction another way if you are wanting. As for the wraps I do remember being told but cannot qui

Hi all, have a SAGE Graphite B159GSP turn up for a bit of an overhaul/restore. I think the B stands for blank only and GSP stands for Graphite Spinning Rod, it is 2 pce at 5'9' unless it was originally a 3pce used as a 2pce maybe? Very light rod. With possible build date pre 1988? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated, lb rating, price @ time of manufacture and or todays price, l

Had the same thing happen as well in a different colour tho, didn really matter but was also wondering why, size A underwrap and size D overwrap. I ended up putting it down to size A being smaller with less colour in it and size D being thicker more colour, interesting thing tho was it was wrapped on a honey colour blank and the size D was actually lighter in colour than the Size A underwrap, bot

I hear you, even though I do love using my American Tackle power wrapper and use it all the time, I did upgrade the chuck to the ALPS one and it is great, my problem with the power wrapper was the wiring also, after receiving an electrical boot of it I decided to investigate, looking at the wiring there was a earth screw loose and the wiring was very close to the aluminium underneath with just so

A couple of lights will get your temps up, can get cold here as well during winter and not to long ago built a drying box and put a couple of Halogen globes in there as they give of a fair bit of heat, these days they put a film over the Halogen globes that gives of less UV than a standard light bulb not that it would probably matter to much I think. I also put a strip of LED warm colour light

I have the SRF12 RODgeeks blank done in a two tone, its not really 12ft by the time you slide the two pce's together, it is a lot heavier than what your looking at but am pleased with it and the finish on it is very nice, I have no problem with it living up to the blanks specifications and then some.

I am using the flame atm, seems to work better on the high build for me, the alcohol torch type, tried the gas torch but was worried about the amount of 'hot' heat it applied instantly, thinking of going down to two coats of light build soon and hopefully wont need any bubble busting device..tho bubbles seem very temperature dependant for me, colder more, warmer less.

When I was a fishing guide I used to see at least one rod a week break from anglers doing something, from high sticking to flicking/shaking rod hard when snagged and so on, the way you broke your rod have seen that as well several times with lure or fly very close to boat when fish strike only for the angler to lay back into it and strike, result very often broken rod normally in the first third

Had this also, went white on the bottom of the bottle, still don't know why, when syringing it out would get white specks in it, have not used it since and thought some how it got contaminated but still couldn figure out how. Be interesting to see if warming it up more dissolves the whiteness.

Be really interested in this also, the 12ft could be an option tho ideally 12'6 to 13'6 for the surf down here.

Hi Glenn, The rod had a Shakespeare Premium sticker on it, the guides are non folding, I called Frogleys and they had possible a few but not the full set, so I might be left with using more modern components and going that direction with it, will look at repainting the blank back to the original honey colour. Thanks Scott

Hi Baz, Thanks will try Frogleys in the off chance that they have something, I think your about right with the age of the rod and may have to resign myself to just restoring it, but thought I would ask first. Cheers Scott

Hi, my first post but been reading and learning from the forum for awhile. I am restoring a 12"6' Surf rod and was looking to try and replace the guides with the same or similar to keep it original. The guides are double double foot guides of a casting surf rod. They are white with a red ring and stainless steel frame, with what looks to be a bell symbol on the foot of guide with FK
