Gotcha.
The tip section does fit snugly over the butt section, so I guess it's the modern type like you said. I will wrap over the female end and do a small wrap over the male end right after the female end stops as you mentioned.
Thanks.

I am getting ready to do my first build and bought a 4pc 4wt fly rod blank online a few years ago that's going to serve as my first rod.
I'm getting confused with the ferrules though. With this blank it has the hollow parts on the female ends of the rod pieces and then it has the plugs in the male ends. Do I need to buy ferrules for this or are these technically the ferrules and I just need to

I just wasn't sure if most people install the seat to where the cap comes off when there's no reel on it or if they glue the cap to the very butt of the rod/seat.

Yes it's a fly rod reel seat. It came with the wooden seat itself, the cap, ring and the reducer that goes at the top of the seat to start the cork. I know the ring doesn't get glued, but do I glues the cap to the bottom of the seat after gluing the seat to the blank.

This is my first build and I got my blank in earlier this week and my reel seat in today. I want it to have a classic look to it, so I got a cap and ring seat, but I'm not completely sure how to install it on the blank. I know the basics of using masking tape to make the seat flush with the blank and then epoxy it on, but how do I install the cap on the seat? Do I glue it to the seat or blank or

Hey Guys,
So I just got my first blank in today and I've read about how to find the spine on the blank, but I don't really understand. I took it out of the package and stood it up on the floor and put a hand on the tip and pushed on the side of it with my other hand and the rod bends obviously, but I don't get how that finds the spine. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm building my first rod here soon and I'm getting all the parts together. I had a rod on @#$%& in mind. It's a Fish Creek 9' 4wt 4pc for $35.00. I'm looking for a 9' 4wt 4pc that's cheap for a first build. Would that be a good one to start with or do you guys have some other recommendations?

Hi,
I'm Logan. I'm new here and am just about to start my first build. I'm going with a cheap Fish Creek 9' 4wt 4pc fly blank, ring and cap reel seat, and single foot guides and I'm custom making my own cork handle.
I have researched and read up on it a good bit, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how the ferrules work. Say I order a 4 pc blank, will I have to install ferrules on the e
