Hey Tom,
I'm looking forward to the Expo and there are several seminars listed on the Expo web site that I want to attend.
When will a schedule of these seminars be posted?
Thanks.

Hello Eveyone,
I am looking to your experience and guidance to help me diagnose a problem that I just experienced.
A few days ago I finished building three spinning rods for the Grandchildren for Christmas. The guides on each rod were wrapped with FishHawk, Variegated, A thread, with complementing metallic A thread trim wraps. Each rod was wrapped with a different color thread for each gr

Somewhere about 45 years ago my grandfather gave my two cousins and I a rod and reel set for Christmas. I have used it ever since and caught many fish with the set.
However, the rod has gotten so old it is no longer usable. The wraps are unraveling, the guides are corroded and the reel seat has welded shut from years of salt water and sand.
Because of the brittleness of the rod I am not p

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. Chad, the idea of shortening rod a thread or two is a great idea. But it would have been a better idea for me to have asked BEFORE I glued the tip on. Like I said, I'm still learning.
After looking at the glued on tip top a little closer the gap is not as wide as originally thought. The owner of the rod is happy and couldn't even see or feel the

Just replaced a tip top on a store bought rod for a friend. There were several deceptive wraps still at the end of the rod and the new tip slid down, almost to the wraps. The wraps are still secure, look good and under epoxy so I did not want to disturb them. But there is a small gap about 1 or 2 thread widths wide between the base of the tip and the wrap.
I want to close this gap to prevent

Thank you for asking this question. As a new rod builder I learn a lot from reading other peoples questions and the answers.
Tom, a suggested topic for next year's Expo, a "Buy The Numbers" seminar. The rod building class I attended was great in that it taught us how to assemble our rod kits. But it did not teach why specific components and sizes were used.

Just finished my first non-family fishing rod and my first cross wrap. Built a Special Edition Law Enforcement "Blue Line" rod for a raffle.
I've been doing a lot of reading from others posts, the library and viewing photos to learn. Thanks to all who have helped contribute to this new adventure!
Photos posted. Let me know what you think and any suggestions will be greatly appr

Hey Tom, Don and Gabe,
Thanks for the help and advise. I have Tom's guide and have been using it, and getting better.
I just finished wrapping single foot guides on a rod this morning, complete with top and bottom trim bands and an 8-wrap metalic inlay in the center of the wraps. Overall, it turned out looking nice.
I still have the butt wrap to do and will be starting that after lunc

As a new building and still learning and I am looking for some experienced guidance.
I like the looks of trim wraps at the bottom and top of my guide wraps. I am getting better and they are looking better each wrap. I have also tried doing an under wrap in my trim colors and then doing the over wrap which results in a smoother and neater looking complete wrap.
But, am I just doing ext

Thanks for the replys and info. After some practice, the forhan loop is now being wrapped.
Reading about new things is great, but it never replaces the directions of experience.

21. Locking Wraps
Hello,
I am a new rod builder. In the past year have built 5 rods, each looking better than the one before. I am in the process of rod #6. On this spinning rod, digital camp grips, sanded 7 ft med blank and single foot guides, I am wanting to add a locking wrap to each guide. In Tom's book he talks about using a security wrap behind the guide leg. I have also read and watched the videos

Being a new rod builder, everything was great to me. But I have to agree my favorite product was the Rodgeeks. Liked them so much I bought one in lavender to build for my wife.
My favorite rod building tool was something I saw some demonstrating at another booth. Not sure if it is a prototype that he was trying to sale or the finished product. Since I was not close enough to talk with him,
