Ive pulled apart a rod with a turned wooden bottom grip, and a top wood grip that was held together with 2 pins o ether side of the metal reel seat, I had to grind off the pin on top to fix a wobble on the top but I am now seeking the advice of my peers...Do I put another pin in to attach the top portion of the rod to the metal seat or should I use epoxy? Second question-If I use epoxy, how well

5. Under wraps
Ok Im refurbishing a rod for a buddy, and when removing the eyes, I found this white tape (I think) or some sort of white paint under the wraps....Is this a common thing for older rods, and if so does anybody know a easy way of getting this stuff off??
Or do I just wrap over it?

Hello again, this is part 2 on the question I asked earlier regarding wood handle grips. My buddy asked me to look at a 6' 6" glass rod. The bottom grip appears to be a solid piece of wood, the reel seat is metal, but there appears to be a pin holding it to the bottom grip, and above the grip, there is another pin that appears to be loose due to the rocking of the top wood grip. Here is wher

Hi Terry, i was looking at the rod with a shaking wooden grip, turns out on closer inspection, it was the grip, but the grip is being held on with a pin that is at the top of the metal reel seat. I think you may be right in the fact the blank does not go through the reel seat and the lower grip. My question is how do you think I should go about fixing the rocking in the grip. Should I try to pla

Heres my question, how are you supposed to wrap to the end of the blank without having overhang going into the female end of the blank which might cause the male end not to fit correctly. Is there a mandrill you stick in to the female end, wrap the end and epoxy it then pull the m

I am extremely grateful for all the help and responses I get from this forum....Here's my question, and it seems so basic, but What is the difference between Epoxy and Finish? Also do I need to apply finish to my rod after the epoxy? What is finish? can finish be used insted of epoxy? Also does the 2 part epoxy ever go bad? Is it supposed to be warm-hot while holding it in your hand when you

Why does my rod chuck keep on coming undone when Im wrapping or using my burnisher to smooth my wraps? Im a new builder, and I have made a couple of rods using a hand made wrapper, but now that I have the Pac Bay power wrapper it seems more trouble to use it and have the rod jump out of the chuck, and have to go back and do the wrap over again after. Please is there a trick or technique to usi
