G'day all, I will try to explain my problem as best as i can. I have had a 10kg class game rod returned to me from a customer that i built up for him before xmas. He says there is a problem with line touching the frame of the stripper guide when there is lateral deflection of the rod tip. The blank i built this on is a sabre 6455L with AFTCO (new type) standard roller guide set. These r

Hi Trevor, Im with Kerry on this. Plan to apply two or maybe three very thin coats of your finish and you should end up with a nice even flat finish over your wrap For the 1st coat I put a fair amount on my brush and keep pushing the finish along, working along the rod with the brush. When the wrap has reasonable coverage, i take my brush and wipe as much of the epoxy off, leaving a dry-

I have a different method to this problem. I used to build for a manufacturer. Mostly Fly, spin and baitcaster rods, all of which used a lot of single foot alconite guides. As i needed to produce a fair number of rods each week, i found that using tape was just too slow and needed something that was easier and quicker. One day while i was waiting for my wife in a craft/hobby shop, i notic

Thanks Mike, Billy, Bill and Cliff..... Im going the 5 min epoxy road as i don't have a great deal of time with these two rods. Bill, your suggestion is the one i like the most, so i will have a go using cork on the next job i have when i have more time. Cliff, your idea also has merit, but these two rods are being built with identical designs....black A grade and gold metallic trim.

Hello all, I am building two light game rods for a customer, a 6kg and an 8kg line class. The butt area is complete and im ready to start the thread work. However, I want to build a ramp from the blank up onto the front grip from a weave pattern, so there is a smooth taper up onto the foregrip and then epoxy it. I was thinking of using C or D grade thread to build my ramp, but i am wond

Billy, Thanks mate, email on its way. Let me know how much postage is and i will send to you same as before. I still have your details. I use a local product called Jack Erskines. Its a water based cp i think, not at all like 811S, which i have used and prefer. Its just hard to get from my local supplier. Thanks again Billy, good to talk to you. Take care. Peter.

Hi Patrick, Glad to see others are using it as well. I have also used the envirotex-Lite in the past for fly rods, with the thinner coats over the wraps, the Lite suits it well, as does LS Supreme, but, i did have questions at first with it as over a 6 month period, i did experience some discolouration, so i stopped using it. But, i do like the envirotex and as its a lot cheaper (here in A

Hi guys, I build for a manufacturer here in Australia, as well as for myself and envirotex is what Strudwick and myself are using, although i do use LS Supreme sometimes (my favourite). Strudwick have been using it on all their range of rods from fly to spin/baitcaster for the last 3 years with no adverse problems being reported. I have been using envirotex for everything from 1-3kg spin to

Hi Larry, I make my own colour preserver by using a clear laqueur, thinned with 25% laqueur thinners. It has very good UV qualities. I apply three coats minimum, working it into the threads thoroughly and allowing to dry for 24 hours before epoxying. Never had a problem with it and i think its as good as the acrylics and Gudebrod 811. When i run out, simply make up some more. Be careful mi
