Great! Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I will go with wired guides except for the stripper guide. I will need to price out the cost of the REC guides, but I think stainless single foots are a good alternative. I'm building this for my brother and we'll be fishing from beaches/shoreline and I would not be expecting to catch anything really big, although it would be a hoot to see hi

Greetings all,
I'm building a MHX F906-4 (9' 6wt 4 pc) for saltwater and I'm looking for some confirmation if I am doing the right thing or to hear some alternate suggestions. One of my design paramters is to keep the rod as light as possible and retain as much of the fast action as possible. Out of the bag, the blank seems really slow and I hope I am wrong. My intentions is to start off wi

Once you buy the blank, you may find the action may not be slow enough for you. If this is true, you can put a heavier coat of CP and finish on the guide wraps - maybe even a double wrap - (especially towards the tip) to slow that action even more. Good luck.

Are there any plans to bring the collection volumes available on CD's more up to date (e.g. Vol 10, or Vol 9), because I would definitely buy some.

I would encourage you to look in the surplus sites/catalogs for gearhead motors that work on 12V with 20-30 RPM's. These will have enough torque to turn even surf rods without burning out or stripping the gears. They would cost about $20 each but will last you many many years.

My suggestion is to use white nylon cord. You can dye it by boiling in Rit dyes to match your wraps. How thick your cord is a matter of preference. Also, I would suggest you thin out a flood coat of epoxy that would allow it to soak into and between the nylon fibers, then follow up with a thicker coat to fill but not cover (as noted before). Good luck.

You might look into Waterworks-Lamson Reels where the cheapest reel has the same drag system as their most expensive reel. Guaranteed to have a reel in your price range.
Also, another one you can look into is the Nautilus reel with their CCF (Carbon/Cork Fiber) drag system that is hermetically sealed with almost no user maintenance to perform. This is one of those reels that you rarely see b

Hi Scott,
Saw your post about using the Thin Lam veneers in rodbuilding. Can you send me any and all info I need to purchase and use your veneers in my rodbuilding and knifemaking projects? Thank you so much...
Thanks,
Ed

I built a 7 1/2' ultralight spinning rod from a 6 wt fly blank and it is such a blast on 2 lb test. This thing can cast a 1/4 oz Hopkins No-Eql a country mile! Good luck with yours and enjoy.

11. Re: Spring wire
Yeah, try your local hobby store that carry radio controlled airplane parts and they should have 12" and 36" lengths in various diameters.
