Thanks Bret, I did a practice wrap this weekend. I used a plus one pattern, on four axis pattern. I knew right away that It needed the 8 axis's; definately too large on the smaller rod. I will take your suggestions into account on my final design.
At least I know the color pattern works on the root beer blank. Thanks again!

2. Scales Wrap
I am looking for a scale pattern for a new rod. I know it is a fairly simple split diamond but what should I use for the plus side. I have looked at some photos which look to be plus 3 or plus 4. Is this a constant pattern or does it graduate? I am building a 7' bass rod, so I assume that 1/8" spacing on the layout up the rod will be about right.
Thanks for the help.

Being out of touch for the holidays, I didn't realize this book was in short supply. I just bought two copies ($30.00 each) last week from Anglers Workshop in Woodland WA. If I had known the issue I might not have given one to a friend. I am not sure of his supply, but you might check through his link on the Sponsers List.

Thanks for the tip Bruce, I will look into the Rice metallics. It sounds like several people also like the Sulky thread. I have a few old rod blanks around so it sounds like maybe a little more experimenting would be a good thing before starting my next rod.

Being new to the craft, I am sitting here watching my second rod dry with the final coat of epoxy, I am wondering about thread options. I used Gudebrod threads for my first two rods. The normal nylon thead worked very well and I was quite pleased. I wasn't overly thrilled with the HT metalic thread I chose for trim. It looks very nice in thin (3-5 wrap) accents, but I wasn't impressed if the
