I posted this in an old thread that didn't seem to pull up to the top of the forum so I thought I would repost In a new thread. Looking for input on the MHX ice blanks, specifically the walleye wizard, the walleye, and the professional. Wondering how they compare to the medium walleye sweetheart by Thorne bros? Additionally, anyone that has used them what specific baits, jigging rap sizes, s

Looking to get into the topic here a little more. Really looking for opinions on the MHX blanks specifically the walleye wizard, the professional, and the 42" walleye blanks. Any guys that have used them and what the application was. Jigging rap size? Jigging spoon size? Size of fish, etc... Any insight would be great . Also wondering why the professional is double the $$$ Th

That is a good point John while i wanted a clean basic wrap but that is still a good description of the wear and tear it will see. I have noticed more rods eliminating the underwrap even on commercial diver rods and didn't think it was anything but cosmetic on the original rod. I am just a weekender however I am really most interested in longevity as I opted to do this build with Si Ni II - BH

I am rebuilding a set of dipsy diver rods that originally had an underwrap. After removing the original guides I am left with an area under the guide that is not a nice smooth finish. Now I have a choice to make, I replace the underwrap to cover between the two feet of guides or I find a way to cosmetically fix them. My first thought was perma gloss or a thin coat of epoxy to clean up the blan

Especially Tony Childs as I searched and found some olds posts...... I was wondering what you found out about the Fuji Silicon Nitride guides for wire? I would love to stick with a conventional guide. I am planning to rebuild some 10' Okuma Blue Diamonds, these come with a gold insert. The stripper guide and 2 others grooved pretty good after 3 years of weekend service and I am going to rep

I am looking into redoing a wire dipsy rod with a roller guide or 2 in the first and second locations up from the butt. The line is #30 7 strand mason wire for dipsy diver trolling and I have heard stories of some factory dipsy rods that have an inferior roller guide and tips that the wire (#30) will get caught along the frame outside the rollers. Having no experience with roller guide

I bought a diamondback 6' 6", 2wt. fly blank almost a year ago, the blank is brown in color with no spiral pattern in the graphite, not sure what model. This was a closeout item and I believe it came with a decal for the blank. Problem is I cannot find the decal! I "always" put the decal in thier plastic bag taped to the reciept. I cannot find the reciept nor the decal for th

I have a blank that was bought a few years ago by my father. He put a handle and seat on it with rodbuilders epoxy and I believe he used super glue to secure ONE LARGE Spinning guide. I am working on finishing the build with a nice custom handle and the guide spacing is all messed up with that one guide on there. At this point the handle is removed leaving a bunch of the epoxy. What is the

I am looking to put together a drop shot rod, spinning reel seat and want the reel seat to end right with no fore grip. How should I close off that gap typically there is a larger hole in the seat for arbors to fill. how can I finish off with a black graphite or plastic piece directly in front of the reel seat. I looked at winding checks nothing is large enough to cover the gap between the bla

Steve I have used and built a few float rods all for centerpinning, not a spinning reel, the idea with match guides is to reduce slap on tthe blank when casting. I believe they were originally developed with spinning reels in mind. I typically use 3-4 match style guides right off the reel, transition to a spinning style then a low frame spinning then to a fly guide to the tip. I typically

I have a project that I want go from a TATSG #8 to a #8 titanium fly guide. I am wondering about the height of the guides with a transition from a higher frame to a low frame. I was under the impression that the TATSG is more like a match style guide and the high frame would be a drastic change. Am I wrong? Are the TATSG a typical height spinning guide? I hate to drop the $$ for th

I put a new reel seat on a project the other day and miss my alignment mark a little. I am usually pretty careful and have never had to move a seat once I epoxy it in place. I used rodbuilders epoxy to glue the seat. How do I move it? I thought about the hot (boiling) water trick that I use for removing reel seats but they are usually junk and I don't know if I do it, do I need to remove al

I am looking into a drop shot rod. I have the handle figured out and would like to know if there is any major difference in sensitivity with the graphite arbors as compared to the tape arbors I use for most fly seats? Is it any real noticable difference or is the tape with epoxy hardened to the point that the effects are the same? jj

Have a compiled photo board of guide wraps in every color they make on all different typical blank colors with and without color preserver?. I typically see questions asking for suggestions like I did on a few builds that were different color blanks or to match some component prior to building the rod. I would think that this would be and easy project and a great way to market your material

I am making some cosmetic adjustments on a bamboo rod that a freind bought cheap, he wants to be able to use it. My questions is regarding the natural or worstened bow in the blank. I am looking at the tip section and in most of my building I use the normal flex tohelp with the lay of the guides. This blank has a deffinate bow to the tip section. The bow is in the same direction as the guide

I have a vision of what I want but I am afraid to do the glue and turn the handle yet. I need to see some pics of a transition from regular select grade cork to natural burl.. Anyone have a link or some pics to post that show a transition from cork to burl besides just trim rings? also I have a fuji handle that I want to use for a different project but the color of the cork is a darker s

I have a couple of questions about bamboo rods. A freind has a short one that is missing 2 lower guides. It is not a collectors item and not a gem by any means but he likes it and wants it rewrapped. I looked it over and see what looks like there was some kind of coating on the blank in the begining, it has faded but it has a glossy look to it? Should I redo that with anything? I notice

I just finished the frontier 15' 3 pc float rod. I am stuck out of state and have only test cast it but I am very happy with the blank. I did a lot of research before hand and found that alot of the "Facts" were just opinions about likes and dislikes. I am putting the finishing touches on a 15' stcroix spey right now and the difference in the weight is very noticable. Not to say

That is where the question came from, I was told and it didn't sound right so I asked the question. Let me first say that this doen't go for most sage products, however, I received the blank from the dealer that I had posted about earlier on this board and got the over whelming responce that sage blanks do not come with their ferrels wrapped. Today when I received the blank, both ferrels are wrapped from the factory and coated with finish. The package was completely sealed and the blank i
