Layoffs, rod shop shut downs and poor sales result in an opportunity to build custom orvis rods. I would however stay away from the zero G. It was so bad as a production rod that it was replaced by the helios very quickly. Significant issues with the ferrules braking lose while fishing resulting in brakes.

Its very likely that it was oil residue left from you handling the rod pre finish. The oil on your nose, ears and other parts of your body will repel paint, epoxy and other finishes that are in capable of dissolving the oil it is applied over.

Definitely understandable and this format certainly is not a bad choice. I find interesting the "if it isnt broke dont fix it" concept very disappointing from rod builders. That type of thing leads to stale creativity.

Sounds allot like how Orvis developed the Helios. Their testing equipment was very fascinating to say the least.

Good preservation of insect requires the use of formalin. The formalin with tuffen up the flesh of the insect, alcohol turns the flesh into muss after a while but works also. Often the addition of glycerin is helpful, because if the insect is left out or the bottle leaks the glycerin will help to keep the insect from drying out. Glycerin can be found at most craft stores in the candy and cake m

I was wondering if someone might have some options on 13ft float rod blanks. Im looking for 13ft 2 or 3 piece rods some where around 4-10lb test. I am aware of the common blanks, like sage, loomis, rainshadow, raven, st croix and diamondback. I was hoping to find some new blanks (to me) to try out. Thanks

I have a science back ground so any diference was neat to see. Basically it was a couple grams to 10 or so grams. Not much in the grand sceem

Maybe you guys can either confirm my thoughts on something or fix my thoughts so they are correct. If one was to use too heavy of a guide or too much epoxy on a rod you could get a rod to feel like it is softer then the blank was before the build. My thoughts on this is because of the added weight when someone does the wiggle test, the added weight cause more force to be applied to the ot

I made my first grip from burl and cork rigs this week and with the help of some of the older post here they came out nice(one is posted to the gallery if you want to look. The one problem I encounter was that the burl cork sanded off slower, so then the cork in between ended up being slightly lower not much but some. I like the idea of giving the grips shape so i was unable to use a sanding bl

Hello all, I am looking to create an one of a kind float rod for myself. I have built several dozen rods for friends and myself and I am ready to create my pride and joy. I have been searching the sponsors sites (and others) and finding components that I will be using. For the first time I am not rushing or settling. My problem is that I can not find a butt cap to my liking. I have foun

I've been practicing doing doulbe cross wraps, on old blanks, wadding staff and any other scrap I can find, and have the setting up portion of the wrap down pretty good. However I have had some problems with threads. I tried using metalic gold thread in size A for the first few wraps to have a gold diamond and I just can seem to get the thread to lay right. It seems like the thread is segmented
