Hey guys, I have never built or owned a high end fly rod although I do lots of fly fishing. I see North Fork has a really good sale on and am thinking about the LMX blank in a 9`5wt. I love to cast for distance but most of my fishing is with an indicator. I am also looking a the HMX Native series, same designation. Any comments. I own a 6wt quickline and a few different HMX rods. Thanks guys.

I built a 4pc RX7 9' 5wt a year ago, it measured out at 4.9 and 60, so pretty consistant with the other RX7 blanks.

Fishing for trout in lake, I live in a fairly windy area. Rod will be used mostly from shore. Have lines and a 6wt MHX, want two rods set up so I am not continually changing reels between sinking and floating. Thought I would try a different Co. for a blank.

Looking to build a need rod strictly for 6wt dry line. Should I go with a 5wt at 1.5 oz,. ENR 6.76, AA 72 or the 6wt blank at 1.6 oz., ENR 7.15 AA 70. Distance matters as this is for lake application, thoughts? As the tittle says I'd like to try the Quickway blank. Thanks for your thoughts. Denis

I built it for a friend for big walleye, as I have stated it was way stiffer than I antisipated. I was looking for something a little lighter than the Gloomis, should have measured before I built.

I have built 4 rods on those blanks, I love my 6wt fly rod, haven't used my 4wt yet. I built two rods for a friend using two piece blanks, a 6 1/2' and a 7'. I found the spinning blanks quit a bit stiffer than what I was expecting, if you want the CC data I can supply.

Haven't got a scale that will measure the weight of the rods, I did us the minimal wraps and finish on the 4wt. I use a reloading scale for the CCS data, the 6wt has effective rod number of 6.35 but is a fast 75 on the action angle probably why it casts distance so well, lots of reserve. The 4wt has an effective rod number of 4.6 and an action angle of 65, from my short try with the rod I th

Just want to leave a comment on a build I did. HMX 9' 6wt. 4 pc. Really like this blank, casts like a cannon and can really feel the rod load and unload. Am using a 5wt floating for lake and you need a lot of line to make it work, but that works for me as all casts are long. Bought a 6wt intermediate and it absolutely loves this line, loads with about 30' and just gets better from there. Just fin

I'm going to give you the perspective on CCS from a complete nub. I built a five weight rod last fall, it would not cast like I wanted, so I researched the CCS stuff and tested it. It was a 5wt but barely, I then built a 6wt from a Co. that supplies the CCS and borrowed a big name 6wt and a 6wt line. Did a whole lot of testing found out the CCS on the rod I bought was accurate found out the borro

Just finished a 906 4pc., very fast action and throws an incredibly tight loop. Was hopping to use a 5wt line I have on hand, but tried it with a 5 and 6, it defiantly prefers the 6. I did the CC thing and it was pretty close to as advertised, a little weaker and a little faster.

I agree, if anyone has done any machine work you would be in awe of this mans skill. I understand it's not rod related but it's pretty amazing, nothing like an anal person watching an anal person and being amazed!

I've got numbers for an RX7 9' 5wt 2pc. EFR 4.9 AA 60. Was having trouble casting distance with it so did the no's. Ordered a 4wt line for it, should be good.

You are correct Todd, as I said if my timing was not spot on everything just kind of fell. Problem was by the time my backstroke was straightening it was also in the grass.

Anyone have any experiences with Pacific Bay's quickline fly blanks? Am trying to get a feel whether to try one or mud dogs mhx blank.

Very interesting, went on the common cents info web site and studied the document for 2 hrs last night. Set up a test for the rod this morning, turns out my 5wt mod fast rod is a 4wt mod bordering on slow rod. Cents 40 = ern 4.9/ AA 60. Quit useful, as it fits with what the rod was telling me, timing had to be perfect and no reserve power. Any comments?

Where would I find this information, I saw some numbers on the mud dog sight and thought that might be useful, but where would I find out how to measure. Thanks all for your replies!

The lines are on correctly one has a different color sink tip and they both have a little bump when the WF part ends. I've tried my old 7wt on it but don't remember what it did, that was in the fall. I'll have to try my bro's 6wt and see what that does. The rod is 9' witha .365 butt and a 4.5 tip. weight is 1.74 Thanks for the help guys.

Not an expert by any means, first build, but I did a ton of reading and I'm pretty sure I did it right. I'll try and find someone with a 4wt line to try out. What are the chances I got the wrong wt blanks shipped to me and how would I know?

Doesn't matter which line, I have a floating and a sink tip. As to Toms comment, might be a clue. It feels really good with a short line but as soon as I try and push the distance, unless my timing is perfect, the line just gets blown done by the slightest breeze. It just feels weak with a long line? That's the best way I know how to explain it.

Hey guys, First post, have been gleaning info for a while. I have a question that I hope I'm on the right forum to get answered. I used to do a lot of fly fishing and recently got back into it after a 20 yr. sabbatical, my old rod was a Sage 2 7wt. I have taken an interest in creek fishing and built myself a 5 wt rod on a Batson rx7 blank. The trouble I'm having is casting the rod. I have to have
