I recommend oversized heavy wire snake guides. The single foot guides I have seen are much too small in wire diameter.
Your fly line coating will wear less on thicker diameter wire,,,, at $85-$100 per line that is a consideration.
When fighting large fish with a 12wt, you apply quite a force to the fly line in the guides.

The new Sage VXP are not a reintroduction of the discontinued XP.
The VXP has different blank construction and new tapers however, simiar action and casting feel to the XP.

I have personally witnessed two salt water fly rods break at the metal winding check, these belonged to friend who makes up his own Sage fly rods.
Sage replaced the butt sections no questions however, each rod was out of commission for some time.
When a rod is flexed the blank goes from round to oval shape and the sharp edges on the winding check will have a tendency to cut into the graphit

The Sage factory thread for the SP, SP+ and SPL was made by H.H. Rice company, it is the only deviation I am aware, from Gudebrod in the Sage manuf.
I do not remember the exact stock number however, it was Teal Green or close to that description.
Angler's Workshop has or had spools of the special thread for sale.
I called H.H. Rice directly some years ago and was told they would sell
