Ok, almost embarrassed to admit this. After making rods for so many years I have never ever used perma gloss. I finally broke down and ordered some to try. My question is, can I put this over rod finish without water breaking the surface? Reason being is I have a rod that's already finished. I have carbon fiber grips on the rod that I'd like to coat with this for the final coat. . It would be n

Thanks for the idea Bill. I have been trying to research making molds etc... to pour your own winding checks. There sure isn't much out there. Maybe this would be a good article for the next mag issue. :)

Wow these are some fantastic ideas. I really appreciate the input. My lathe skillz unfortunately are not up to the task of turning the acrylic unfortunately. They look beautiful tho! I really want to look more into the casting idea.

I'm getting tired of buying and using the same ole standard winding checks. Anyone have ideas on making your own or something different that can be re-purposed for a winding check? Thanks for any input gentleman.

I used a few wild colored foam blocks from my kids play set. They are very durable and turned out really well after being turned on the lathe.

Not positive but I believe the "wet out" stage would be easier to achieve with the laminating epoxy.

Thank you Mr. Kirkman. I did take a few photo's just incase PB wants to see it. I just didn't want them thinking I wanted something for nothing. That wasn't my intentions for the post here as I was more curious abou the straining thing more then anything. I will give it a try tonight after my shop cools down a bit and let ya know if it worked or not.

Thanks guys. I did think of that option but for a $20 item it just isn't worth the aggravation of dealing with the vendor over shipping charges etc...
Thanks again for the replies. I will try the strain method and stick with my usuall finish that I know for future rods. :)

Not what you may think. It was a new unopened bottle that I just took out of the package. The little pull tab seal that seperates the top from the actual product deteoriated and has tainted one part of the finish. I'm kinda bummed as this is the first time using the rodsmith stuff. Anyone had this issue? Do u think it's worth trying to strain it? I already dumpped a bit of it out trying to s
