Good Morning All, I have just finished my first crosswrap and am thinking ahead to how I am going to apply epoxy finish to the wrap. It looks to me that it is going to be heck on wheels trying to get it level. It is an open crosswrap and I have used regular and metallic thread, so are there any tips on how to get the finish to come out level? Thanks, Bill

Dave, I do a bit of web design work, and I've got a color wheel that I often use for developing new thread color combinations. It's called the Web Wheel and it's sold on the internet at Check it out, maybe it will be of some use to you. Bill

All, I'm trying out my first butt wrap this week and I need some advice. Because the blank is black, and I want the wrap( a diamondwrap) to stand out a little better, I'm going to paint the blank white under the wrap. What kind of paint do I use, and do I have to use some sort of fixative so the epoxy coat over the wrap doesn't harm the white undercoat. Or can I just add some white pigment to

Hi All, I'm building my first spinning rod and I could use some suggestions for thread color. It's a Cabelas blank in a Jade green color. I'm using a reel seat with gold trim, and I'll probably use black guides with a gold ring. Any ideas? Bill

Check with Robert or Ray at FishSticks4U. They are a sponsor on this board and I have had nothing but great service from them! I also know that they are running some unadvertised specials on Rainshadow RX8 rods. Bill

Okay guys, I need your opinions on the best way to keep thread tension while wrapping. I'm in the process of building my own wrapping jig and I need a way to keep tension on the wrap, even if I need to back off the wrap a little to straighten out some twisted threads. Right now I'm using thread spools mounted on threaded posts sandwiched between Delrin washers. This gives an uneven tension at bes

Billy, I gotta agree with Ray. I think you were a little hard on Dick. If you thought his questions were getting overbearing, you certainly didn't have to reply to them. I'm a fairly new rod builder, so I can remember my first rod very well and all the questions I asked! I think the whole problem came from the fact that Dick had no interest in learning the craft of rod building, he just wanted t

I have a request for a spinning rod and I have found a blank with all the required specifications, except that it is a matte blank and the customer wants a gloss blank. Is Permagloss the way to go? And are there any special tips that will help me get it right the first time? I read Ralph's article in the library but I figured with all the expertise on this board there would be some do's and don't

Steve, One thing I can tell you about these arbors that I learned the hard way. Glue the arbors into the seat before you ream to the final ID. MUCH easier that way! Bill

Evening All, I could use some help picking thread colors for my new fly rod. I'll be using a Rainshadow RX6 blank in a dark blue color. I was thinking maybe a different shade of blue with gold trim bands(I'm a Saint Louis Rams fan), but I would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks Bill
