John, The blank is 7' in length and if was cut, it would not be a mod/fast blank. It is also unpainted the 1st 10" of the butt section. If I remember correctly, some of the Harnell blanks he/we built came thru that way.

Thanks Ross, I think with the larger tip, it might handle up to 2oz. I guess I won't know until I build it and give it a try. Just hoping to find out if somebody might know who mfg'd the blank with the info and dates I provided. Although he built a few rods until early 90"s. So it could of been mfg anywhere from the 70"s thru 90's. Thanks again! Vic

I have a blank that was given to me (all with several others) by a gentleman that taught me rod building back in the 70's & 80's. Its #'s are SWB70ML. The butt dia. is .780 with a tip size 9. It seems like a mod-fast blank thru testing. I am guessing a line rating of 10 - 20 lb. and lure rating of 1/2 to 2 oz. I am thinking it's a Harnell but not sure. I think it make an awesome Striper rod f

Peter, I build 8 or more per year to fish out on Jefferies ledge in the Gulf of Maine for Haddock, Cod and Pollock. You can not go wrong with Mudhole's CRB E-Glass blank #SPSWB8XXXH. We throw anywhere from 71/2 oz to 20 oz jigs depending on the current. I build them as follows: 14"butt grip, Fugi DPSD #26 Reel seat and a 12" fore grip. Guides are Fugi Turbo w/ 25-20-16-12-12-12- plus to

Casey , I use the mudhole E-Glass blanks for all my Cod and Haddock rods. I have sold a half dozen of them and all my customers love them, even one of the party boat captians bought one. Great blank for the money! Vic Peterson

Billy, 1st, thanks form the reply, i don't have anything to go by, trying to figure out the pattern just by looking at other rod pictures. I think it is just the angles in which I am putting the thread or the size of the thread. The wings and head are not in the right proportions. I am trying to make the bird stand proud of the wrap using D metallic thread. Will include your book today when I pl

Does Billy's book cover thunderbirds and fish butt wraps? I know that he covers a lot regarding Visual Wraps in his book but I am trying to perfect the Thunderbirds. Mine don't seem to come out looking the same as some of the pics posted. Thanks

Larry, thanks for the info. Mixed just 1 batch. I think what Tom posted is what happen. I rotate the mix cup by hand until no more swirls, as I have always done, and the butt wrap was the last to be done. Some of the unmixed epoxy must of finally worked its way into the end of the batch. Thanks guys for the info.

I put my second coat of flex coat epoxy (lite) yesterday morning, all the guide wraps came out fine but my butt wrap is still very tacky. It was all the same batch of epoxy. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this happened? Thanks

Has anybody tried heating the epoxy in a tin cup before applying to the wraps?
