sorry for not finding the answer myself... here is tip no. 12 from flex coat Tip #12: For the rod builder who likes an extra thin coating on rod wraps, there are three ways to get a thin finish. Use a stiff brush which will spread the Flex Coat evenly and thinly over the wrap. Heating will also thin the finish. Thinning with a solvent such as acetone or epoxy thinner also works. Between

greetings, soon i'll be wrapping micro guides on a bass rod and fear the thick flex coat i use to cover the wraps... in the past i've used klass koat to good effect but found that if i had to replace a guide it was very difficult to remove. klass coat could be thinned. is there any way to thin flex coat so i can apply it in several coats? thanks for any help. mforrest

thanks garry, that sounds about right for handle length. i notice some of these new bass rods have a fairly fancy reel seats... i prefer the fuji ecs and acs but wonder where one can find that configuration with the small cork or foam rubber lock down screw at the end. this seems very practical as it finishes off the forward end of the handle/ree lseat in a pleasing way. mforrest

thanks forrest for the feedback, i think i failed to mention that this rod would be for a bait casting reel. i know that my nephew fishes the gulf of mexico for speckled trout and red fish and lakes for large mouth bass this is the blank he chose. btw, forrest i used for the first time black synthetic cork rings for my last salmon rod. got them thru some tackle shop in minnesota or wisconsin.

Greetings rod builders, A lot has changed in the rod component sphere since my last visit. new micro guides for example. I'm a west coast trout and salmon fisher and build only fly and salmon rods. recently my nephew has asked that i build him a magnum bass rod. he lives in florida. my nephew has chosen the NFC MB 705-1 (HM) - a 7' rod. i came across a tackle tour video of the Kistler

Thanks everyone for your valuable input... in truth i've never had a problem with the fuji SIC titanium guides double or single foot... i reckon i'll probably stick with them and go double foot all the way for running guides. thanks again! marc forrest - tws

Greetings once again. i've added a new blank to my salmon rod arsenal. I received in record time the North Fork Composites salmon G.Loomis back bouncing blank SBB 809-1 (IM) this is the largest of that model. the matter of sturdy long lasting guides concerns me. previously i have built up the g.loomis GL2 bb964, adding 6" to the butt as i intend to do with this new 809-1 blank since

thanks Roger for the advise. i had three fish on and landed two this morning. none bigger than 18 lbs. the guides are holding up but then again i'm switching rods every other day or so... if i loose anymore single foots i'll replace them with the double - but will regret the extra wraps, weight and possible action change to sluggish. i hope to get thru this salmon season only 5 more week

greetings, fishing has been hot and heavy for swift water spring chinook salmon... fishing from the bank/wading i'm swapping between two rods i built last year a loomis BB964 and lamiglass GLB 93 extended to 8'3" anyway the guides on both rods are spiral wrapped and began as double footed fuji sic with the running guides being fuji single foot TLSG 10, 8, 7 and 6's respectively.
