I made up a little laser device using a cheap laser level I bought on @#$%&. I took an old spinning reel and cut the foot off and attached a board to the reel foot and then attached the laser to the board. I also drilled a hole in the center of the "leg" of the reel foot to use as an aperture alignment device as well. You simply put the reel foot in the reel seat, turn on the laser a

A new type of thread finish was mentioned in the current edtion of RM magazine, and it was said to be unveiled at the convention. I was unable to attend so was not privy to this unveiling. Could someone direct me to where I can find more info about this? Thanks.

I received my first issue yesterday and was VERY IMPRESSED with it. That single issue was worth the yearly subscription rate. The article on "Craquele" was very inspiring. Let alone everything else in it. Thank you Marco Antonio Silva and your son for the awesome technique, and than you Tom for a great magazine. BTW, What issue/s had the article on carbon fiber grip making??

It's gotta be tough for all the NON Yankee fans knowing their team can never nor will ever be as great as the Yankees. I wish I could say I can empathize, but being a Yankee fan as I am, I cannot. :-P On a more serious note, those Yankee grips look great!!!

The PMS color you need is 202. @#$%&.com has a free color matching utility you can download that will cross reference that number and give you up to 20 of the closest matches. It looks like Pro Wrap # 343 burgundy is a good match.

I have used mostly FishHawk and like it a lot. I am expecting an order from Mudhole today that has some Pro Wrap and some Sulky included. I have read some complaints about Pro Wrap metallics so plan to avoid those. I have been very pleased with the FishHawk metallic as well as their variegated.

That was cool to see. That goes a lot quicker than I would have guessed. Although I am sure an extremely sharp chisel is key.

I have been in the sporting goods business for about 5 years and in on place in particular we used to have a waterfowl weekend. I swear it's a competition sometimes between these guys to see who can blow the loudest. It could be VERY IRRITATING when trying to carry on a conversation with a customer whether it be in person or on the phone. I'd say you made a good call Tom by not having them bac

Here is what I did. I watched every video that I could find online and then watched them all again. Some I watched 3-4 times. Practice wrapping on an old blank, dowel, gun cleaning rod etc... Develop a method and stick with it. Research on this forum and another rod building forum similar to this that is great as well. Read all pertinent articles in the rod builders library etc.... I w

Ideally black hard chrome with a black insert either SiC or Nanolite. Something tough. This is going on a flipping rod that will get some abuse. The guides that we are most likey going to go with are the Amtak ring lock NBRLMG.

I am putting together a quote for a guy that wants an MHX blank with micro guides and the problem I am running into is that I cannot seem to find a tip top that is size 7.5 with an insert smaller than 6. I am planning on using sz 4 micro guides. Does anyone know of who might make a 7.5 tube with a 4 or 5 insert? Thanks!

I am searching for a carbon fiber exposed blank trigger/casting reel seat. I found a website the other day that had a bunch of carbon fiber stuff on it and I thought I remember seeing one but now I can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

I am very familiar with the painting process and how nasty the stuff is. I used to work in an auto parts store and mixed more paint than I care to remember. Looks like I need to pull out some old blanks and play around.

In my full time job I deal with warranty issues often, and most all manufacturers tell you to send the product to them for warranty repair/replacement. Not the retailer. That being said, I would be a little upset if I were you since most rod blank warranties have a replacement fee. In that case I would contact the manufacuter and explain your situation. Best of luck.

Thanks guys. The guy wants something flashy and bright so as to set it apart from the other rods he sees at tournaments. I am familiar with House of Kolor paints and know that they offer something to fit the bill. Essentially he wants a bright color that fades to a darker color. I have a friend who has an airbrush he said he would give me and I am considering trying that out on an old blank t

I had a potential customer approach me that is a big bass tournament fisherman and inquired about a custom colored rod. We discussed it and I mentioned a few possibilites. I spent a few years in the automotive industry and thought about a body shop to do what he desires. Have any of you ever "farmed" out or had a blank painted by a body shop? In my estimation they would be the best

Hey guys. I am in the process of planning a 11' 6wt switch rod for a client and am looking for a source for a retractable fighting butt extension. I saw a thread on here about it and no source was ever given. I see AMTAK's but it doesn't look like it retracts. Does anyone know where to locate one of these? I recently saw one on youtube and it looked really slick. The customer wants a two h
