I haven't built on a Dan Craft for a while, and haven't heard too much on the differences since his lineup changed. My first was the Sig V 8'" 3/4wt and is still my favorite rod. How does the new Sig V line compare to the old series? Are they comparable, or have the characteristics changed noticeably? Thanks.

It is a multi-colored thread. It changes between silver and ice blue.

Schneider's rods have a series of 10' 2 piece flyrods in 1 to 4 weight. I'm hoping someone has tried one out and can give some impressions of them.

Has anyone tried out Schneider's 10' 1-4 weights yet? I'm curious about how they cast and fish. I would love adding a 10'2 weight to my collection.

I built Forecast blanks for my 8 year old son, and he does fine with it. It is definitely a step up from the bargain outfits. I think they are a great blank, especially for the money.

I built one on a Forecast steelhead 9' 4-8 lb test rod and it is my favorite. Give it a try. They aren't expensive and are great for crappie.

Thanks for the input, Cliff and Tom. It never occurred to me that RB wasn't a good tiptop choice because it stuck too well. I was concerned it might not hold when under load. If it ever fails, I'll probably do the amputation. It is a light spinning type top used on a light spiral wrapped rod. Sounds like it will be OK.

So Rod Bond most likely won't let it spin or release? If it will withstand normal usage, I will just leave it where it is.

I stopped thinking yesterday when I was putting the handle of my latest rod together. I figured that since I have my Rod Bond mixed, lets stick the tip top on while I'm at it. I've read that Rod Bond isn't for tops, and that heat won't work on Rod Bond, so how should I go about getting it off so I can install it with normal epoxy? Could I soak it in denatured alcohol for a bit? I'm going to wait

I'll swing by the lounge after dinner. I'll be getting in town around 2 or 3, and would expect to be down around 6 or 7 perhaps. I'm looking forward to finally meeting another rod builder in person. I've heard rumors that you guys actually exist, but I'm looking for real proof this weekend.

I'm going to build a 6 weight rod on an FT blank in the near future. Can anyone give me some sort of distinction between the 9' and 10' besides just the length of rod? Or has he kept the action reasonably consistant between the 2? Also, has the FTL made it out yet? I would love to give one of those a try as well.

Do you have to call them before, or just show up when they start loading up?

I built a Forecast salmon/steelhead blank that is 9' long and rated for 4-8 lb. test. It is a lot of fun and is a great rod for crappie and even some bass. It has become one of my favorite spinning rods.

I haven't built on that specific blank, but I built a 6'6" 2 wt on the RX8 line and I absolutely love it. I have a couple of buddies that claim that rod casts better than anything they've ever used. I hope the others in that line perform as well.

I've built several shorter light weight rods using inexpensive Batson black on black single foot ceramics, and I love them. I've put them on 7'6" 4 weight and 8' 4 and 5 weight Forecast blanks, and even on a 6'6" 2 wt Batson RX8. I probably wouldn't use them on a light weight blank that is 9' long, but for shorter rods, they are great. I took my first flyrod that I built with single foo

I also own a Sig V 8'4" 4 wt and I love it. The Sig V is lighter, and a more moderate action than the FT's. I think it works wonderfully with lighter tippets, but can still fire the line out there. From my experience, the FT's are a little less optimal for finesse type fishing. I would second Keith's recommendation of the Sig V for lighter weights, and the FT in the heavier.

Try this one: www.riverwire.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=1890324019 I was thinking about buying a couple if they had them in stock, but I think I'd rather see someone get some good info without me trying to profit from it. Good luck!

I just checked my posting in the archives, and the Westin quoted me $60 each way.

You guys told me about the shuttle that will take you from the airport to downtown a couple of months ago. Is that something you have to reserve in advance, or does it run a regular route? I found one online that looked like you had to make reservations for, but was cheaper than cab fare. BTW, I got my plane tickets yesterday and have had reservations at the Westin for quite a while. I will be

I use U40 cork seal. It makes it just a little darker, and lets you clean up your grips very easily. It also changes the feel of the cork somewhat, I think.

Something else you might try is to use some of the Sulky sliver, electra braid or HT braid. These are more flat and will allow overwrapping easier. But they probably won't work well as a double wrap. I use them for underwraps expclusively.

Since I don't have any suppliers near my location, I am stuck with ordering blanks sight unseen. The only ones that I've been disappointed in were some clearance economy casting/spinning blanks that I didn't get all the info on beforehand. As far as fly blanks, I started using Forecast blanks just to get some experience inexpensively, and found that they were wonderful to cast, especially in shor

I built one on a 9' Forecast Salmon/Steelhead blank that is rated at 4-8 lb. line. It is a great crappie rod and retails for around $30, but you might find some of the 2003 series out there on closeout. The RX7 version comes from 9 to 11 1/2' and is twice the price. Utmost has an 11 1/2' blank on its blem list for $20.

That's where the problem comes in for me. I'll be home and back at work by the time Monday rolls around. Will the airlines not take a tube as checked luggage? Or do you just have to pack it extra well to make up for the guys with destructive tendencies working in baggage handling?

I'm planning on doing some serious shopping while at the Charlotte show, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get blanks back home. Is the best method to bring a tube and use it as checked luggage, or is a 7' or 7 1/2' tube too long for the airlines to accept? How have you all dealt with this at the last 2 shows?

I did one in Sulky Pine green metallic with HT metallic gold trim over black frame guides with gold rings. It came out looking very nice, and not nearly so flashy as it would seem. The pine green was subtle for a metallic thread.

Forecast makes a 9' 4-8 lb salmon steelhead rod that I really like. I built mine to use for crappie and it is fun to fish. In fact, I ended up building another one for a buddy after he fished mine. I think the old version is in blue and they've moved to clear gloss on the new models, so finding the old ones might be hard, but I know Schneiders have them on their site. They also come in 8-12#.

I built a 2 piece 9' 9 weight on a Forecast blank because it isn't a rod I'm going to fish a lot on, and I wanted to keep expenses down. It casts just fine, and I'm more than satisfied with the rod. It isn't a superlight, superfast high modulus rod, but it is a decent rod for an outstanding price. In the shorter rods in lighter weights, I really like the Forecast line of blanks. But be sure to ch
