I did the very same thing on my first spinning rod. I cover the nut with a foam grip and I love it. Threads and my finger can rest on the rod blank. I build a second like it for a friend and he says it the most comfortable rod he has.

I recently completed a MHX CB905. It's a crank bait rod but I have found it to be a great flipping stick as well with less than 1oz lures. it has a bit softer tip if thats what you want. I built it for large crankbaits and it performs very will in that regard. 65 bucks at muddle.

In Tom Kirkman's Blog, October 2010 he mentioned a revolutionary thread coating that addressed the shortcomings of epoxy. Environmentally safe, clear as water, hard as rock and smooth as silk, maybe I have over embellished his description. Did this new product hit the market and has it met expectations?

I have refinished two rods with Krylon spray and urethane clear spray all from an aerosol can. Have used them for several months and they look Great.
