New Concept guide placement tip

Here's a tip that helps me find the intersection point using the table edge method. Some people may already do this but I thought it might help others:
Take the spool off the reel.
I found it much easier to find the centerline of the reel by lining up the spool shaft. The narrow diameter of the shaft is a lot easier to line up than the wide spool.

Here's another tip: When trying to remove a tip-top, don't leave the blank in a pot of boiling water.

That's good tip. One RodMaker reader suggested that after removing the spool, you slip a fly rod tip section over the spool shaft and allow it to intersect the blank for perfect choke guide location.

That's a good tip to remember with the reel shaft. I also like using the straight stiff edge of a fly or ice tip section (something skinny) for interscting. If you have room on a tile floor with straight lines, that also is a good refererence for lining up the rod rather than a table top. Aside from this, the 1 ft. tile sections often are used for quick length confirmations.

Quentin. Good tip about the blank in the boiling water. haha

Here's another one: Don't get the spool drag oil or shaft grease on your hands and then touch the blank where you will be wrapping.
