Heating Rod Finish

Any problems with heating the rod finish after it has been applied and is tacky? I pulled a real snafu last night. My rod finishing motor is plugged in to an outlet that is on the basement lights. Well you guessed it, I turned of the lights and went to bed. The finish drooped on one guide, not real bad, but bad enough. Any drawbacks as far as strength or durability I should be worried about. Thanks Re: Heating Rod Finish

Bart, I did something similar a few nights ago. After applying the FlexCoat on a new rod, I went back and applied a little more finish on a guide and after a couple of hours, turned the dryer off. An hour after that I went in the room and found that the finish on the guide that I had redone had sagged. I applied some heat but to no avail. I rewrapped the guide and applied the finish and left the room. After a while I checked and a fruit fly was embedded in the finish, etc., etc., etc. I am now on my fouth try at finishing that guide. Bart. You can heat the finish but it may not move. You can either cuss and unwrap the guide will it is still wet (making cleaning easier) or wait until the wrap is solid and sand down the sag, then recoat. Or leave it alone. My vote is for unwrap. Re: Heating Rod Finish

Bart, my vote goes to Don. Obviously depends how bad the sag is ( a milimetre you could recover after buffing) any more than that why sink the ship for a bolt or two ?? Learn from it and re-wrap Stan. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
