Have a blank coming that is only available in gloss green. Much prefer a matt finish. How do i matt it without screwing up the finish? Fine steel wool?????? Thanks, Harry Re: Gloss blank to matt

#0000 steel wool with a light touch. Follow with Rottenstone on a wet rag. You will be pleased with the results. Re: Gloss blank to matt

Rottenstone works as does automotive polishing compound. I use 4/0 and 6/0 I do believe. You get a nice satin finish with these and not like I see on factory rods... Very nice! Re: Gloss blank to matt

Rottenstone is a fine powder used to rub out finishes. I wonder if the auto polishes might not work better. Re: Gloss blank to matt

I use steel wool as mentioned above, but have found that it pays to experiment with grades. The super fine grades may produce more of a gloss than you want. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
