Guides for ST1143

I just ordered a Loomis ST1143 GL3 blank. I have built numerous casting rods but never a spinning rod. I know what size's I like on my casting rods but I need help with what size spinning guides to put on this blank. Any info would be great, also I am leaning towards double footed guides just for the durability. Any suggestions on either single or double foot guides? Thanks

You can't just decide on what size guides you need. The size reel and line you use will determine the size that they need to be. I just finished up a nice 9 foot surf stick via the article on the New Guide system found in the July-August 2000 RodMaker issue. It worked really well and I went with 4 double foot guides on the butt area and then single foot guides from the intersection point on out to the tip. It's really, really light and throws a mile. Using the article to guide me I set it up in about 10 minutes and even after moving some stuff around and test casting I was not able to improve on that original set up at all. By the way I also tried the Fuji spacing and sizing as per their web site and it did not impress me.

If you use the double foot guide for durability just use them on the butt area. Low frame single foots are more than durable enough for the tip area.

Ditto on the New Guide Concept method. Quick and easy and really lightens the tip up! Great casting too!

On that blank I'd look at something like high frame 30, 20, 12, 8 and then very small and low #8's for as many as you need for that length. I'd guess you will need about 9 guides total. This is just a starting point though. Like the man said, let the reel and line tell you what sizes you need and where they go.
