Some interesting findings ...

I decided to get out the old scale and see exactly what the deal is with SIC and Alconite guides. Here are my findings...

SIC

LNSG 16 24.3
LNSG 12 13.3
LNSG 10 10.6
LSG 8 5.1
LSG 7 3.3
FST 7 (5.5) 7.35
TLSG 8 4.2 (this was the only titanium guide I had)

Alconite

BLNAG 16 26.9
BLNAG 12 15.5
BLNAG 10 11.1
BLNAG 8 7.7
BLNAG 7 5.5
BLAG 8 5.6
BLAG 7 4.7
BFAT 7 (5.5) 7.6

*437.5 grain = 1 ounce

The chrome alconite were roughly .5 grain heavier than the regular alconite guides. I guess what this all boils down to is SIC is lighter than Alconite but only by very little. The titanium SIC are considerably lighter than everything.

I would really like to see how the run of the mill Fuji Hardalloy guides stackup against the Alconite and SIC's. Just for my own gradification. I am very easily gradified.

I almost measured some of the Hardloy's but I only had them in heavy boat rod guides. The SIC and Alconites were all concept guides. Considering the small cost difference between alconite and hardloy, I do not even cosider hardloy in similar type guides.

**Note to Fuji, please make an HNSG, LRSG, and USG, in Alconite!

Very insightful. Thanks for doing that analysis!

Now if only someone did the exact same thing but for other brands and styles...(Fuji vs. Pac Bay; single foot insert vs. snake guides, etc).
